Dang. I just did a google maps thing.

straight line distance from the house to the office front door is, 1989 feet.

to drive it and measuring the correct lane and in turns, equal 4168 feet.

Not everyone has enough to waste 12,000 miles a year riding motorcycles. Running a business working 70 hours a week, extra busy in the summer months, etc. Dont be so judgemental over shit you obviously don't understand

I’ve been riding since before the Internet became a thing.

“How many miles makes you a rider?”

If that wasn’t the first thread, it was close!

    lol

14 hours in the saddle and leg cramps at 3 AM. LMAO Geebus, nothing gets you wide awake like a cramp in your calf and a long day in the saddle does it every time. Pickle juice and vitamin C, the pickle juice to stop the cramp, the vitamin C to kill the soreness the next morning.

All you guys who wont ride the rain are missing something. I cant really remember the last nice pleasant sunny day ride I had, but I can tell you every ride where we went from a sunny 72 degrees to rain, sleet and 39 degree snow in one day, a ride started in Greer AZ started at 17F and was 104 by the time we got to Morinci AZ, we stood by the cooler at the stop and rob in Three Way AZ eating a sandwich out of one of the carton and drinking a water trying to cool off, while the cashier shot the shit with us. Ran to Silver City New Mex and snagged a room at the Murray Hotel. 106 degrees leaving Las Cruces NM and grabbing a motel with AC at noon in Midland, leaving Midland at 2 am the next morning to dodge the expected 110 degree heat. Good stuff, discomfort aint deadly, just uncomfortable.

just a couple of things tbh
Ya no I'm not missing anything lol. I have a truck to take the bike to places and have a backup vehicle... I've done a lot of offroading with only one vehicle a long ways from home and have had issues in the past... Yes does it make it interesting but tbh I don't care to do that no more so long distance rides will never be for me.. riding in the rain is a chore and not fun to me so nope.. you can do it go on ahead

As BkrChuck implied, it aint the same. LOL If being uncomfortable bothers you, by all means, take the truck. I'm not telling you ride, or dont ride, I'm telling you why I ride. There is no right way or wrong way, Just the way you want to do it.

Adventure is adversity tempered by time.

Some of my fondest memories of rides involved overcoming obstacles. Rain, a flat tire, a broken battery cable, stopping to help another rider and riding away with a new friend. Meeting a few people from this very thread and riding to Philly to meet some others for cheesesteaks. I told Dianne when we got together and she went along on her first rally that it would be the most fun she'd ever have being miserable. Motorcycles have put smiles on my face and tears in my eyes and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Wow this is getting heated!!

I ride when I want and don’t ride when I want. Been riding longer than most here have been alive. I have ridden in the rain but don’t try too. I did a track day in the rain. I choose not to just because it’s dangerous enough when the suns out but in the rain no one can see you. I live in the PNW and yes it rains a lot and it’s dangerous just in a cage around here that drive like the roads aren’t wet and you can’t freaking stop fast. No thanks. If I get 6000 miles a year in who gives a crap what anyone thinks about that. So you ride more than me. So what ,, congratulations?? I have been riding for 38 years and have owned 18 different bikes, So who cares?
Ride when you want, as far as you want and what you want. I don’t care, there are no prizes . Rant over (for now)

Nah, my logic keeps me alive (well, at least so far).

I never said you can’t take a week off. I’m referring to the people that @TacoTyusday was referring to - who only ride once a week down the street or maybe even less. Those people never become adept enough to ride in a lot of rougher situations and IMO are more likely to outride their skills or be put in a vulnerable situation.

I also probably ride in denser traffic, not to mention lane splitting is something that IMO requires constant practice to keep on top of.

Plus, this is personal preference, I dont really care if you think it makes sense or not. If I can only ride once a week to once a month, I’d prefer to not ride at all and keep that once a month to a track day. If you dont feel your skills drop off from not riding, great. For me I can feel that edge is gone if I take an extended time off the bike.

I agree, ride however much you want. I am just stating for myself personally that I feel safer on the bike if I can ride more consistently.

Also we can all think we ride a lot till you look at the IronButt site and see insane people doing stuff like 100k miles in 100 days.

38 on road and started riding a mini bike at 8yrs old on a 69 Honda 50 mini trail, then we had a 1981 yz80, a hodaka 125 and a yz 125. We just road around our 1.5 acres and had power line roads behind our house. Started on the street in 1985 @ 18 yrs old.
But who cares. Doesn’t make me better than anyone else.

I like to ride as much as I can. Rain and fog are really the only time I don't want to ride. I only live 5 miles from work, so I don't get too many miles a year :D

    Just a perspective:

I pushed my first bike home, about 2 miles, at age 13. A Yamaha YG-1. That would have been the summer of '65 ;-)
