any idea why the exhaust and gas tank cross sides? it seems simpler to just have them the way they were. Im sure there's a reason just wondered if anyone had any insight.

Seems like Toyota listened to some of the complaints about previous designs. In this case, the complaint about "Taco Lean" due to fuel tank, driver, and battery all on the driver side.

Perhaps they addressed that issue by moving the fuel tank and battery to the passenger side.

If Toyota is actually listening to their consumers and implementing changes, that's an incredibly smart business move. Auto makers now have small armies of sponsored / non-sponsored YouTube content creators that pick on every aspect of their vehicles.

Just imagine if those YouTubers had nothing bad to say about leaning suspension, tiny radio knobs, gear hunting, minivan motors, uncomfortable seating positions...need I go on?

Weight distribution. Previous Taco being based on the 120-series Land Cruiser was optimized for RHD config in Japan and Thailand. 4th gen (and 250 Land Cruiser) are optimized for North America, where most of the sales volume is.

Toyota standard has it that the fuel access is on the driver side. The NA Tacoma will now share a platform with among others, the global Hilux, which is distributed heavily in right-hand-drive markets. The decision was made to place the fuel tank on the right side, offering easier filler access favoring the Hilux.

That left Tacoma engineers the need to route the filler line all the way across the truck bed to accommodate Toyota’s driver-side standard. Probably necessitated rearranging a few other items underneath too.

It's just a standard and a tank move for weight distribution.

It's odd to see on the tundra, super long pipe to make it work. Tacoma is obviously just a bit smaller.

We welcome it at work. It took them too long to figure it out.
