I am a fan of the sliders and the skids. I have broken 2 of their aluminum skids now, so if you wheel you may want to chose the steel option. I just really like the way the aluminum looks. Shame on me for my poor decisions.

RSG sliders are my choice, stronger than most, and by far the best looking.

I'm a fan of RCI skids. I have the full kit with the flat transfer case skid. My local muffler shop charged $80 for the exhaust reroute and took them about 45 minutes.

As for the sliders, I don't have RCI there but I opted to not have top plate.

I emailed a few questions I had about some skid plates. They responded 3 weeks later, I responded that day and waited 2 weeks before they got back to me. I thought oh well not a big deal they are some mom and pop shop and are busy till I looked into it and they have like 100k sqft factory. If this is the customer service I can expect I am buying somewhere else

I actually called rci this morning prior to placing my order. They answered and helped me out and answered all my questions. Maybe email is just not their thing. Give them a cal. I had a good experience with them and hopefully I will get good use of their products

RCI makes good products. I’ve got their sliders and skids on my rig. They’ve taken a beating. I bought an aluminum skid but I should’ve gotten steel.

    question for you my friend

been watching installs on the rci sliders. Is it true the break lines are in the way of a bolt that needs to be installed? If so, how did you go about it.

RCI's are solid. I beat the living piss out of them on my 4runner and bought them for my tacoma.

I guess if I had to complain about something, it would be the sliders. Not sure if it's just an RCI thing or affects all bolt on sliders but...
    1. The two forward bolt/nuts that bolt through the frame on each side are such a PITA to access. The trick I found was find a long ratchet, and use painters tape to hold the nut and washer in place and try to get it all aligned.
    2. They utilize a bolt hole where the brake lines right behind it. You need to bend the brake line out of the way and or flip the bolt, so the bolt is pointing outwards. Plenty of threads about this.

    reference to point 1:

you know, I actually had a local shop install mine and I got them second hand. Think they charged me $80 or something like that and it was better than me trying to figure it out lol

Were the questions relatively technical in nature, or looking for particular details?

I don't think many fabricators have any full time engineers on staff and in some cases may not even have full design drawings of some of their products. I'm a mechanical engineer (aerospace structures analysis) and rend to think in terms of specs, which led to a near breakdown in the process when I was ordering my leaf packs from Alcan.

Fabricator shops seem to often be working just from experience/gut feeling and get the uniformity of their products more from their jigs than from a blueprint, and the guys that are making after market off-road parts aren't usually moving enough volume to support a salary like mine without adding a noticeable premium to their prices.

The quote for shipping to Alaska was more than the trans skid plate. I was inquiring about a cheaper shipping option

Just ordered powder coated 5* sliders with kick outs and top plate. They do have a great sale going.

I like the top plate for a step and the holes on the RCI face up so you get some traction on your shoes when it set. Sliders are solid and def do their job. I also have the full aluminum skids and wish I went with steel. I beat them up pretty good and will be replacing with steel.

I have the full set of RCI aluminum, cat guards (before they were giving them away) and gas tank too, they're nice.
Had the exhaust reroute, only complaint was the xfer case mount seemed to allow it to droop a tad and looked like the plate is a little lower.
They never offered to exchange it after spending a boatload which is a bit of a bummer.

Sliders were the first thing I put on and got the All-Pro ones (angled & kickouts, no top), they're ok. Was able to get them locally so no crazy shipping up-charges.
