Thats and indication the service ports may be leaking.

I think those are 1234yf fitting dimensions.

Thanks. I posted a need for a service facility near Ann Arbor, MI in the Tech Chat forum. Not good news for me. Hopefully, someone can refer me to a competent place.

You may be better off asking a question like that in your regional sub-forum.

Thanks for your assistance with my truck and this referral but nothing near me. Is conversion to R1234 away from yf cost prohibitive? My wife has contacts through a local home school group so these contacts may identify something useful. There are know good facilities near our home but they are known to be cost prohibitive.

Not only is it illegal, no legitimate shop would likely want to touch it if you did try such a conversion.

Doing legitimate A/C work isn't cheap no matter how you slice it, the refrigerant alone is $4-7 an ounce for 1234yf

Interesting response. Certainly unexpected. So R1234 is no longer approved for use in automotive refrigeration systems? News to me. My 2016 is the newest vehicle I have ever owned and the only A/C system that has needed work is my 1988 Cherokee. My Civic has not been an issue with anything.

My 2017 seemed not to cool as it originally did late last year, so I bought one of those small top-off canisters that comes with the small sensor clips that go on AC vents and turn blue after charge. Pretty sure they all now use same AC Freon mix?? Worked like a champ. Tried AC today and it’s still pumping cold air.

Not what I said, you were asking about converting a 1234yf system to 134a which is not legal to do.

R134a is still widely available and fine to use in any automotive system that was originally equipped with it but you can't legally put it in a R1234yf system.
R1234yf started being phased in to new vehicles around the 2012 model year (Chrysler & GM were among the first ones to start adopting it), all vehicles produced after the 2023 model year must use 1234yf.
It's kind of like in the 90s when R12 was phased out in favor of R134a.

Component prices are pretty similar between them but the refrigerant and service equipment are significantly more expensive.

Not a solution for me. I chose to give the truck to my son when he goes to college this fall. I need a solution with longevity.

Not a fan of those "quick charge" cans, not only can you not properly charge an A/C system or detect underlying issues using only low side pressure and vent temperature alot of them contain a stop leak which will probably not stop a leak but will wreck an A/C system if any air or moisture ever enters the system.

The only 100% proper way to charge a system is by weight, the only other way to get as close as you can is gauges on the high and low side and knowing what pressure ranges should be at a given temperature.

My 2cents. I believe as they change refrigerant the port change. good luck. a top off from 2016 might work but 7yo connections and hoses might tend to become a problem.

Find a shop and take your truck in. My 2016 had a leak in the evaporator which was replaced 2 years ago ($1700). It’s in the shop again for leaks at the compressor and condenser. This time around it’s a bit over $2k.
And yes, the refrigerant is 1234 and it’s expensive…cheapest I was able to find was $50/can (Napa) and you need 3 for a complete fill.

If you want longevity, do it right the first time. Take it to professional shop, let them take care of it. If money is issue, ask for quote for ac work. No “dilly dally” and wait last minute.
I used to have stock 1st gen Tacoma 2wd, that ac failed, evaporator core leak. Shop owner told me, Asian vehicles best use OEM AC parts because guarentee they fit.
OP: don’t know about your case, possibly quality of aftermarket parts improved from before.:D

I thought you misunderstood my comment relating to this. By 'converting' I meant the complete system - all hardware required to make the changeover to reduce the cost of AC service for the vehicle in the long run.

Of course. If you don't take this path its useless. I checked Google Maps in a 25 mile radius then kept going. For Asian vehicle I located the following two businesses so I will call and talk to them tomorrow:

Japanese Auto Professional Service, Ltd and

    Hoover Street Auto Repair

I suspect one of these facilities will be able to take care of use properly. If OE parts are required then so be it. No desire to repeat this.

I learned my 2016 has the R1234yf with this repair. The A/C mechanic examined my fittings to determine this. The initial appointment determined the compressor would not engage long enough for them to diagnose the system. This was the result of a faulty $350 pressure sensor that is only available from Toyota so this had to be ordered. After this sensor was installed it was determined the compressor was bad so it was replaced and the total cost was $2100. I decided to take the truck to Auto Avenue in Ypsilanti because they left me with the impression of being the most open and forthcoming regarding discussions during my phone calls with repair facilities. Good place but I won't go back because I need to locate a facility closer to home. Nonetheless, a positive experience.
