Local dealership tried to buy my 3rd gen back from me stating that there was a supply shortage(yeah, they stopped making them). They still low ball offered me for the truck.

i laughed, they raised the offer price, i laughed again.

I'm not sure there is a price they can offer me at this point that would convince me to "make a deal", even with the recall issue that has already been fixed.

32-34k. My guess is they would probably sale it for 42k+.

I would think you’re right about the re-sale value. I paid $32K for mine when I bought it new in 2021 lol, if carfax is accurate I could still sell it for more than I paid for it and the offer they gave you kind of confirms that.

It’s a shame that would only pay for like half of a similar trim 4th gen.

I doubt my offer has dropped $8,000 in 30 days.

They call me every few months.
I tell them I'll take $75,000 in cash or with approved credit will finance with 50% down at 25% interest.
    So far no bites.

If this is from the dealer it’s just a sales tactic they use to get u to come down . Why do u think there is an asterisk next to the offer price .

    the point still stands.

"oh, we didn't realize you had more than 5 miles on it"

oh, there's dust on this caliper. that's at least $5k off."

The 2.5 generation of the Tundra is still holding great resale value with the new one out for 3 years now. I think the 3rd generation Tacoma is going to be the same. I'm fairly confident that the new trucks will be "better" but not 20,000 dollars extra better.

This has nothing to do with shortages or them wanting your truck for any reason at all. This is a common dealer tactic to get people looking at the new vehicle and think about buying. The dealer wins regardless.

They’re pulling out old sales and service records and calling those customers because not enough regular walk-in customers are taking new inventory off the lot. If new vehicles were selling in normal volume, the sales staff wouldn’t have time to call previous customers and try to talk them into trading older vehicles for a newer one.

I don’t buy it. I’ve gotten these calls, emails and letters for the last 20 years. It’s standard across the industry regardless of sales volumes.

I was in the dealer a couple of weeks ago to pick up center caps I ordered. Nobody is buying anything and I mean nobody. The sales staff was pathetically desperate on the phones trying to get customers to come in and trade/buy something. I didn't see anyone test driving either. The lot was stuffed full of new Tundras and a transport truck was dropping another 5-6 off as I left.

^Good, hopefully this will encourage steeper discounts off the inflated MSRP.

I wouldn't get near a Tundra for another couple of years. They thought they had the engine thing figured out, but 2024's are having engines replaced. As for the new Tacoma.....maybe I'll take a serious look in about 3 years or so, to include a test drive.

If they would have turbo charged a variation of the current set of engines and stuffed them into the new body they’d be selling like crazy. They still could have released a model with the new set up at the same time.
