After familiarizing myself with the new truck this afternoon. Couple things I noticed:

The engine is very easy to access. Plenty of room on either side. There’s nothing in the way of the coil packs to get to the spark plugs. Not having an engine cover is a bonus.

A bed mat from a 3rd gen almost drops right in. Just needed to trim a tiny bit.

The muffler and driveshaft are massive.

The one I test drove had the 14in, it was very distracting. To each their own.

Absolutely agree, test drove one over the weekend and that muffler is ridiculous. There was a definite improvement in suspension response having four coils now and I did like that, the cab rode on an independent shock absorber system from the frame.

Wish you were right but VA doesn't waive registrations.

VA, PA, and MN are states where some veterans don't pay vehicle sales tax (in VA I believe they are also exempt from vehicle property taxes). "other" states don't waive sales tax but waive registrations fees.

just remember if you trade it in, that you have to take that 10-12k off on resale. you dont get to keep msrp and the massive discount on trade-in / resale

so your 70k truck after 10k off plus depreciation is now 40-50k (tops) once you drive off the lot compared to a tacoma at 60k that may drop down to 55k one you drive off the lot (i am just theorizing here)

in the long run, the hit on the ram will be more than the tacoma from past historyical numbers on resale retention

here is some data (minus the 10k discount)

    https://caredge.com/ram/1500/depreciation?y=0&p=70000&o=5&m=12000

    https://caredge.com/toyota/tacoma/depreciation?y=0&p=60000&o=5&m=12000

I was washing the truck yesterday when I was doing the roof I am not that tall so I had to lean over the spoiler part and it seemed not very strong at all it was flexing when my relaxed muscle was leaning over it.

Absolutely right on Ram products, they drop like a rock. I'm actually looking into Ranger Raptors again, so many fun choices. RR will be similar to a Tacoma on depreciation.

halo trims no matter the brand usually have a higher resale retention, but usually the average (usa) trim dont hold resale compared to toyota resale across all trims.

its usually down to how much discount toyota gives across all models which really helps on resale value retention compare to usa brands give 10-15k off at time of sale.

on average toyota's oem discounts are around $1000 (i have seen them max out at $1500) but usually its 1k or less. this is what helps keep toyota resale value over the decades.

That does not sound good it probably won't cause any issues. Maybe aftermarket will come up with something diamond plate, or smooth aluminum, harder composite. Might even be able to have a flat edge to prop up long items. Something like a rod holder with a base in the bed, a place to mount cargo lights.

IMG_3649.jpg Has anyone talked about or noticed that the cab is no longer directly bolted to the frame anymore and now rides on a suspension system? Definitely made for a very nice ride.

    @Smug Slug

I know Frontier has that. Not sure if other mid-sizes do as well.

    I'm glad Toyota implemented it.

I'm not very tall either...I washed mine this morning. No comment on the relaxed muscle laying on the spoiler.

I had a chance to go test drive a limited over the weekend. I’ll say it’s much more comfortable than my 2020 OR. From the seats, driver position, gear shifting, power, ride and interior all improvements over the 3rd gen. I definitely liked it and so did my wife. The textured dash was a nice touch.
the hud is like the grand Highlander and a feature I’d like to still have/keep. Vented and heated seats worked great and plenty of air flow.
I only went to drive, no intention to buy it. The dealer knew that going in, since I’m on the fence between a Tacoma and 6th gen 4R.

once or twice a week I have a commute of 140-possible 250 miles. My 2020 isn’t the most comfortable for the drive.

I think an upgrade will be nice. I just have to wait till the ‘25 4R to test drive but it appears they are both really similar for the driver.

Either would work for me. If I stick with a Tacoma, I’d probably try and get a long bed.

It's more like a thick stranded mop. I bought it a number of yrs ago at Napa when I had a 2016 F-150.
