    Hey all,

I have a 23 SR with steel wheels. Looking to upgrade to 16" TRD wheels, and also new tires. I know my current TPMS wont work with the new wheels. How do I solve this issue? Not really sure how to go about this. Dealer? Amazon? Ebay?

Also reading stories about tire shops reluctant to install TPMS that are purchased separately.

    Any help/advice would be great.

    TIA

    Two good solutions.

    1) Buy compatible sensors that you have cloned to the current id's of the stock sensors and install. I haven't gone this route but these can be purchased online.

    2) Buy compatible sensors (I chose Denso brand) and then have your truck programmed to the sensor id's. I do this myself with techstream but there are other at-home type programmers or you can go to the dealer or a decent tire shop to have that done.

    Two more solutions:

    3. Buy universal sensors from the tire shop, and let them install and program them. The shop I went to wanted $90 each, so I found some Denso sensors for $45 each (option 2). Tire rack and DensoProducts are both good places to get them. There are probably counterfeits on eBay and Amazon. But if you find a shop that sells universal sensors cheaper it's a good option.

    4. Find a tire shop that is willing to use the sensors from your steel wheels in the new wheels. I bet most would do it if the sales people don't think too hard about it. Basically you just have to install the sensor "upside down". It sticks out past the rim a bit, but if they are careful installing and removing tires it should be fine.

I own a TPMS tool because I swap summer/winter tires myself on my other car. I also swapped TPMS sensors myself when I swapped wheels, because I'm stubborn and didn't want to deal with tire shops. There's a technique with a floor jack to pop the bead loose.

I bought a set of 4 from Amazon and had them programmed to the truck BUT if you buy a set of wheels with the TPMS attached you can program the truck to those units. My garage just did that for me. This enable me to have a summer set and a winter set and my garage only has to program the truck to the wheels instead of the wheels to the truck. Confused ??

Do you happen to have a link. Everything I look at on Amazon says it doesn’t fit my 23 SR
