I hear rumors of GM working on a new V8 or V8's, Ford is still offering the latest 5.0 in the F-150. GM could be focusing on larger displacement for HD trucks.

I wonder if their is anyone, even unofficially and perhaps with out funding working on a V8 for TMC and the NA market? Even if it's all vaporware at the moment.

That's the easy answer and the one I would go with.

There's nobody building a new Toyota V8 in their garage for fun?

I have to wonder where the Tundra would be if GM, Ford, and Ram have new gen V8s on the market?

The IS500 was as good as we get.

The Tacoma with the 3.4 TT tundra engine as a show truck was cool, but we all know not to expect it.

Unfortunately the V8 is dead as far as automotive goes, its just a matter of time.

V8 engines must be less efficient than tt V6 and I6. I keep hearing GM V8s in the works, GM probably has a use for a V8 on the commercial side.

Is there something wrong with the 2UR-GSE? If Toyota wanted to put a V8 into the Tundra I don't see why a 475hp 5 liter wouldn't work.

I don’t understand how GM is somehow avoiding having to put shitty turbo engines in their trucks when even RAM has started to kill off the V8s. And this is coming at a time when “global supply chain shortages” made them stop offering start-stop for a while.

Toyota doesn't make an HD truck. And and their performance division never has really revolved around large cubic inch (cc) engines.
I think they'll do like most (they already are) and go with a corporate engine. Standard size I4 and standard size V6 across the whole line up.
Each model will have a few changes to the engine. N/A or Turbo, cam profile, intake, transmission. But engines will be all based on a the same block/design.
They'll also be expensive to work on. As most are going to DI with EPA lockout functions. You either fix an issue at an exorbitant cost, or have the engine default limp mode until you fix it.
Hell, wouldn't surprise me if the did like the DEF trucks. Cut speed and power gradually until the vehicle is virtually inoperable until fixed. I think we are slowly phasing out the "fix" with "replace".

I think a V8 would kill your warranty.

The TRD Pro is the closest that Toyota will ever come to a "performance" version of anything.

And as we all know, there's nothing "PRO" about the Pro.

    PROfoundly underwhelming.....

I mean couldn't they at least try to compete with the Ranger Raptor? Some good old back and forth "one-ups-manship" would be fun, kind of like they used to do in the muscle car era.

you'd think so, Toyota use to be a force to be reckoned with in Baja, Ironman and such, now this 4 cyl dumpster fire that is waaaay overpriced compared to the competition is silly at best.

Toyota had a crazy 2nd gen offroad concept that was for pure desert fun. IFS front and rear , just like Ironman Stuarts truck

Toyota just spent the prior decade removing the V8 from their entire lineup.

The better money would be to say that their skunk works is currently working on eliminating 6 cylinder plants. It will all be turbo-4s in the near future.

The global market isn't long for this world either. The last holdouts are the 70 and the Century, and they are working hard at phasing in a diesel turbo-4 for the 70. Meanwhile the Century SUV has the iforce under the hood , which means the next generation of the imperial limo will also likely be a six cylinder.

Most Japanese with “fuck you” levels of money want to show off and buy left-hand drive German SUVs rather than JDM.
