I was having an issue where every once in a while the truck wouldn't start - just click. I could drive it somewhere and park and 99% of the time it would start.

I did all of the troubleshooting I found on tacomaworld and couldn't find anything wrong so I pulled the starter to bench test it. It didn't work on the bench and then I tapped on the solenoid a couple times with a hammer and it worked.

It is brand new AC Delco (not rebuilt) with less than 2 months of use and under warranty. should I send it back and hope I dont get another problem starter or $30 rebuild kit

Im assuming that doing a rebuild will void the warranty.

does a rebuild kit help with sticking or just worn out contacts? are the rebuild kits universal, will a dorman rebuild kit fit AC delco?

Get a new one, you paid for the warranty by going new IMO

You would have been better off with a Bosh or Denso Reman.
What's done is done. But I don't like AC-Delco in anything but Chevrolets. And that's only because "at least they fit" the Chevys.
Not too impressed with their parts these days.

Warranty it and hope for the best. If the "new" AC/Delco goes out. Toss that SOB in the box as a core for the Bosh/Denso.

    4 run, 2 don't
Rebuild your old one, and return the new one that went bad.

    Super easy to do.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I agree that might be the best Move!

Toyota Parts might have some rebuilds priced decent.

This was a "while i'm in there" move. I had the truck apart and the starter was on the shelf for over a year and thought it would be good to put in a new one. I didnt know that the new ones were not reliable. I sent this one back for warranty and pulled the old one out of the junk pile. Bench tested okay, put it in and truck started right up.

The quality of replacements parts has just been terrible in the last few years, electrical is the worst. Sometimes you have to put 3 or 4 alternators on the get one that works as it should. You spend your time diagnoising an issue and call the part, you replace it only to have the replacement do exactly what the original issue is, now you are second guessing your original diagnosis...

I agree. Got an alternator for my girlfriends Corolla from AutoZone, first one overcharged, second undercharged, third fluctuated.

Tried to keep the cost low by going there, plus it was an older car. What a pain in the butt. Fourth finally worked, but who knows how long.

The first one blew up the battery. You can test your alternator at the store, but you can't test the parts you sell.
