I have a bone stock 2004 V6 DC 4x4 (except for 265/75/16 BFG KO2s) that I put 5100's on the rear and have waited to change out the front coil overs until I can figure out how much lift I should add to level the truck. The mechanic that works on my FJ40 thinks I should get 6112's for the front and that 1/2" lift will work. He is probably right about the lift, I cannot tell for sure and I have tried to measure, but sometimes it looks much nose heavy than other times.

Do you guys/gals have any thoughts on mixing the shocks.
Would the 6112's be better if I planned to add a bumper and winch in the future?
Thanks in advance for your advice!!

The 6112 is a better, larger diameter shock than the 5100. In your use will there be a difference, maybe not but I see no harm in it.

Spring rate might be more of a concern than what shock to use with a heavier bumper/winch.

The 6112 (thanks to it's increased oil volume) will be better suited to handle the weight of a front bumper. Once you add a couple hundred pounds to the point you'll start asking a lot of the spring rate, but unless you're trying to get a bunch of lift out of it most folks are okay with bringing the ride height up and letting accessories deflect the front a bit. Bumper and winch are the bleeding edge though. Toss skids, sliders, etc in there and then there's a different discussion to be had.

Thanks for the input. I think I will go ahead with the 6112s.

Just a softball toss out there, but unless you're gonna get the 6112s through your shop we've got them over here on the shelf at Hotshot Offroad. We can even ship them assembled if you need us to

OP don’t make the mistake I did — I assembled them myself, and it was no fun.
