Amateur hour. Make the whole tire stick out the bedsides.

I'm surprised more folks don't do tube fenders. That's what I'm working on with mine. Built right into the back half and the engine cage/front bumper. With aluminum or carbon fiber filler panels (not sure which one yet), less than 100 lbs all in for the 4 fenders between tubing, panels, panel hardware, and paint.

Most trucks out here want an oem look so you won’t see steel / aluminum boxes or bedsides. The overlanding world and the rock crawling world are form follows function, but it’s like icing on the cake when you can build a truck that even has a fully paneled trunk / back half and has oem style bedsides - kind of like how at some point I would see people running oem wheels on 80’s 90’s JDM cars. I see fabbed rear fenders on a lot of diy rigs on off road recovery videos from AZ and UT that are pretty cool and simple and well thought out - it seems to be a popular style out that way. TW LTBS is a small representative in the overall prerunner world where raptors and built prerunners definitely lead the trends and we kind of follow that for the majority of the time.

For functionality even full tube backhalfs with aluminum paneling behind the glass will just make quick release bedsides for running paddles or shock tuning days where shocks get pulled and bypasses get tweaked after a couple runs. This is one way to do it:

Did you buy this kit used? If so you should be replacing all the uniballs and bolts anyway, at least I would. And it's very obvious the p.o. didn't "prep" them which is why you're having the issues. I prep all my bolts and uniballs with a light coat of anti-sieze and I've never had an issue with them not coming apart when I ask them to.

Bought new from WC so probably cheapest uniballs they could find.

i get the desire for an OEM-ish look. i'm on racedezert and a couple of other forums, and really enjoy the builds where people focus on that aspect and keep it super clean. really liking seeing Cory's progress for the same reason. Building my Kei Truck with a similar mindset at the moment. increase the functionality and enjoyability of it, but don't make it look like a buggy. my devil's advocate thoughts are twofold however. 1: obviously in the wide open, unless you roll, or don't properly mount your glass, the odds of hitting something or damaging your glass are pretty slim, but a lot of the long travel folks do enjoy some tighter stuff, especially with 4wd. so while a sponsored individual can make a phone call and have a new clip or bedside shipped out. some well thought out, good looking tube fenders could be a smart financial move for a lot of the LT world.
2: i can't even count the amount of people who say "i want an oem look" and then NEVER paint the fiberglass. that one's just a personal pet peeve i think though.

Lol white fender crew is legit and for guys who keep talking about “small trails” on here (not just targeting you), they always seem to buy midsized and full sized trucks which is an odd decision if that’s a high-ish priority for them imo.

I can pull my fenders and bedsides in 10 min and ratchet strap them to my bed and have nothing outside the bed skins and have 15 front / 16 rear inches of wheel travel with body that is pretty narrow compared to a 05+ and overall track width of a 05+ with stock arms and wheel spacers with my 1st Gen. The cab is obviously smaller and like most guys people gotta run what they brung, but you gotta pick your poison somehow.

I would like to have a 1gr but with the new 1320 sc magnuson released and the Hal tech stand alone I’m loving the 3.4 community rn. I’ll just say that if I had a 4 door long (or maybe shortbed) 4x4 manual 05+ when I joined this site I wouldn’t have got my 1st Gen and would have built that instead.

Of course crawling and those trails are different. I was more referring anywhere that isn't completely open space. I was on a rally ross of sorts kind of course about a decade ago. Plenty of space, not trying to squeeze between two rocks or avoid pinstriping from bush branches. But I slid a little wide on a turn and when I straightened out, I was too far over. Did some paint damage to the fender and blew off my side view mirror on a tree. Course was 20 feet wide at that point, just pushed it too hard and there were trees on both sides of the 20 feet. That was stock fenders cut up at that point, so not a big deal, but I would hate to have shredded a glass fender. Tubing woul have been fine.
Just another option I'm surprised people don't take advantage of more often when their scenario makes sense for it.

I know their are some incredible white fender trucks. Just having some fun at the irony of wanting OEM looks and then not achieving taking it to completion.

    September?
I’m not saying this to be rude or a dick or anything, but my camburg arms look 10 times better than that after Six years, and half of them playing in the Pismo Beach dunes with saltwater.
I would get them powder coated while you’ve got everything apart, If you can take a few more days down

edit; + my truck getting hammered out in johnson valley and Barstow with the golf ball rocks. I have chips but no rust like that.

I see. If you're really pushing a vehicle then you gotta take off the dress unless you feel like repairing panels and at that point it's simply logical to keep it maintenance free as possible.

Another guy in another thread said he knows the guys at this shop and said that they're just sprayed with seymours stainless style steel-it knock off 1k coating.

Unrelated topic to this thread and WC, anyone good with 5vz-fe’s?

Went to change my oil tonight after work, poured a bottle of Berryman B12 Solution down the oil fill cap, 4runner would not start.
Cranks over, has spark, no blown fuses, no codes. I cleared the DTC memory as well as touched the battery cables together for a few minutes after leaving it unhooked for about 10.
Only things that have changed are 15oz more oil volume, and I suppose a slightly thinner oil viscosity.
    WTF?

I read a guy had the same issues with a no start, I think I would pull the plugs and use some compressed air to blow out the cylinders or at least look and see if there's schmutz down on the piston heads. Can't remember if it was on this thread or in the comments of one of this guy's videos.

Well for better, I ended up changing the oil anyway because I was already set up.
For shits and giggles I cranked it over after finishing the the oil change and it stumbled but fired up.
Seems like somehow the berrymans got in a cylinder and cause a misfire almost, but weird with no codes

    I’ll watch that video
