Transmission help?

I have a 2001 Tacoma with the 3.4 4wd auto transmission. The transmission went out and I got a hefty quote for a rebuild so I am looking for a transmission. I know I need the a340f for my truck but am unsure of what years I need to look for one out of. Also, been searching and there just isn't many out there. Mine has around 255k miles on it. Any help, around Ruston, LA?

Might want to list your location. It will help someone like me who has one that might work in your situation to know whether theirs is a possible solution. A trans is very awkward and expensive to ship very far.

 

If you are handy with tools, you can use the A340E out of the same year prerunner, you have to modify it a little and use your original t-case adapter. There are a few videos on utube on how to do it, requires cutting and drilling but it’s doable at least it opens your search field.
