I can understand this and it doesn't bother me personally. But, it can work both ways. My dealer has always had a no markup policy. Thus, it is the only dealer I buy from and get serviced.

So then how do they make money?

No one responded to the part of the context I gave where I asked him about Prius Prime, Corolla Hybrid, Trailhunter, GR Supra and the answer to "Do you have any of these?" was "No, OMG they are almost impossible to find, we almost never see them on the lot."

How the hell do they make money off these models if they're never on the lot.

I wasn't asking about the halo trims of those cars.. I was asking about ANY of them. The Trailhunter is the only one that's a halo trim of the Tacoma.

Pro is considered a halo trim. It just now has fat pig of a brother.

Dunno, how any of them make money. I just buy 'em. :notsure:

    I'm on the fence.

One one hand I understand why they do it. Stops people that don't actually want it from purchasing it over someone who actually does, just to flip it a week later for big profits. Helps keep the vehicle in the network, etc.

One the other hand it makes guys like me who actually want the vehicle but are a first time customer unable to get one, and forces me to resort to the used car market.

I'm sure Toyota is less concerned with loyalty and folks flipping the vehicle and more concerned with FCFS for lower production numbers, but I'm also sure the more money you spend the higher up that call list you'll be.

I'm not sure where you're located. I was not on any waiting list. I searched online, found a Pro in the color I wanted, called the dealer and reserved it. It had a build date of May 16th, but I'm sure that will be extended.

How did you find one when they're not out yet? The 2024's don't come out for a few months.. At least that's what everybody at this dealership is telling me.

Now the finance manager called me to try to talk to me about the Tundra TRD Pro I was looking at saying he can get me a deal no money down for a couple hundred more than I'm paying for the Jeep.. which considering is a great deal but.. the Tundra has the same gas mileage as my Jeep.

Then when I say I want a TRD Off-Road (hybrid, very important) he tells me the same about those as he did the Pro "Nearly all of those are pre-sold and reserved months in advance." and then he said he can easily find me a 2024 TRD Off-Road non-hybrid.

I feel like they're just blowing smoke up my proverbial skirt to try to sell me a car TODAY.

And don't get me wrong I would prefer the non-hybrid if I could because the storage space under the back seat.. but I drove it.. It was disappointing to me (the power). It's actually a bit less powerful than my Gladiator (in actual feeling, it has more HP and torque so I dunno why it feels less powerful)

This has honestly been the worst experience ever TBH, even worse than Jeep.

With Jeep I can never get what I want without paying $141789437894 in higher trim or upgrades.. In Toyota I can build what I want in the website but then I'm told I have to wait years to get it..

Really feel like saying fuck it and just selling the car and buying some cheap shit and forget about buying a truck until I see one on the lot.. This really is a word that I won't coz I dunno if I wouldn't get banned.

I mean if the 2024 Tacoma is supposed to have higher power but I can't @$^ing get one wtf is the point? I may as well buy a used 3rd gen and keep it until I don't have to deal with this #@^!

Preach, brother! I have been feeling this for months. Tired of waiting and wanting to get back on the road. Let's take up arms against our oppressor!

Thanks for posting. I will check this video out.

Forever young. Gas mileage sucks. That's why I don't want it anymore. Where I live everything is 30+ minutes away. I drive to Dallas quite often. I can't afford to own two vehicles right now. Tacoma Hybrid with 20mpg is the best all around vehicle for my needs.

Bro can you put the brakes on a minute here.. THE GUY AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY DON'T COME OUT FOR A FEW MONTHS.

You sent me an inventory list. When I see inventory to me that means it's on the lot. So what's going on here.

Are the ones you sent me pre-orders, pre-sold.. is the guy lying to me?

Like one of the things I'm trying to find out is "Is this salesman a snake."

Coz it seems like he is desperately trying to sell me a $70,000 truck that doesn't fully meet my needs and telling me that EVERYTHING I ask about that's not on the lot RIGHT NOW is impossible to get.

I've been told on this forum by a guy the Corolla Hybrid is the holy grail of responsible car purchases and yet it's one of the cars that's "impossible to get."

He may have a point. Yeah, we all want the new flashy things, but if a DEALER is saying that it wouldn’t be in your best financial interest to try and finance the thing then you may want to look at your finances before buying a 55k truck.
    Just my two cents.

Can someone please answer my questions? Am I a moron? Do I absolutely SUCK at communication?

    1. To me I think this guy is lying his ass off about everything. It CANNOT BE TRUE that EVERYTHING that is not on the lot is impossible to get.
    2. Is this guy just desperately trying to make a sale and being a snake to do it?

I'm sorry but I dunno why people are focusing on what the guy is saying about financial decisions..

THE GUY IS TELLING ME TO BUY A $70,000 TRUCK FOR $1482 A MONTH WITH 0 DOWN AS SAYING IT IS THE BEST FINANCIAL DECISION FOR ME TO *** GET RID OF NEGATIVE EQUITY ***

I'm sorry but I don't know how much clearer I can get with this.

I don't mean to offend but I feel like I've been asking the same questions and no one is answering me specifically. They're just giving these confusing answers that could mean he's right or he's wrong.

Actually, people on here have been trying to help you but you aren't listening. You can either look at the inventory and call the dealer or continue to beat your head against the wall :frusty:

People are trying to help. Try contacting those dealers that say they have them. Let us know how it goes. We need the info too.

    OK.

So I went to that "inventory" link and I called the Toyota dealer for one of the Tacoma hybrids listed there, here is what I found out (for anybody else who has my same questions):

    1. Yes, the guy I'm talking to is lying to me. No, all those cars are not impossible to get.
    2. No, that Tacoma is not on the lot right now, it's in transit.
    3. If the 4th digit from the end of the VIN is a letter, any letter, it means the vehicle is in transit.
    4. He told me the vehicles will be coming in very quickly.
    5. He said that he will check to see if it's available and if it is he will send me a spec sheet to make sure they configure it exactly the way I want.
    6. The guy was super kind, super relaxed, super helpful. Not super pushy like the dudes I've been talking to.

I don't really what opinions people have of me. I was able to find out the answers to EVERYTHING by calling this dealership in California.

Now I know I'm not dealing with these snakes of salesmen at the this dealership I went to. I will probably find one close to me.. coz obv. I'm not driving to another state.

Like are you 5 year olds? Can you not read English? THE SALESMAN TOLD ME THIS AND I THINK HE'S A F****** SNAKE AND I CONFIRMED IT."

Why are you acting like I am the one saying it's a good financial decision???????!
