I'm just beginning my overlanding journey.

    Last year I bought a 2013 Tacoma sr5 4x4 6cyl base model.
First thing it needed was appropriate wheels and tires.

Just yesterday I finished upgrading the suspension to Bilstein 6112's, 5160's, Icon RXT Leaf Packs, OME upper control arms and Timbren bump stops.

I'm replacing the CV axles and joints weekend after next. Mechanically they're fine but the inner boots have holes in them.

I have rock sliders hopefully coming in a couple of weeks.
I'm unsure what direction to go from here as far mechanical or structural upgrades?
I'm trying to ease my into this. I'm trying to cover my bases as far as having a solid platform to build around.

I have been camping and backpacking for decades. I'm a backcountry hunter.
I'm good on actual camping equipment for now.

Suggestions of a hierarchy of upgrades would be appreciated.
Especially if you recreate in the Northern Rockies area.

Sounds like you have a solid start, and a good approach too. Take your time and work out what you need or don't need. Don't fall for all the instabro hype that I hate so much about Overlanding

Here are my initial suggestions in no particular order:
Along the lines of the above, regular maintenance will go a long ways on these trucks. While performing the maintenance you will learn what tools you need. Develop a tool roll or two (or three) dedicated to the truck that will let you tackle most repairs should they arise on the side of the trail out of cell service.

Rock sliders are worth their weight in gold that first time you come down on a rock. Along those lines maybe consider a rear bumper. I've been doing this for ~6 years and still don't have a rear plate bumper installed. But I know WY is way different than Maine (beautiful state by the way!)

Bed stiffeners are cheap and easy to do

Rear diff breather relocate is cheap and easy if you have an afternoon

How about recovery gear? Is a winch needed where you go, or will traction boards cut it? Check your spare tire is still good and the hoist still works. If you carry the OEM jack a few sections of 2x8 or 2x10 work great as a stable base on the trail, and also as risers for additional height

Communications? You probably have that covered with your backcountry experience. My Garmin InReach performs its job well.

There's a shitload of good information on here. You just gotta ask
