Ok, lil background, 3rz 5 spd with a cat back. INJEN high flow intake. One cat gone still have stock header. Exhaust leak from the bottom of the second cat to the muffler but is half sealed with silicone. When downshifting and coasting I get little grumbles between 3k-1k. Also at 4k I get decent backfires. I’m a kid, I think it’s kinda cool. Truck’s loud and is popular around with people who know it. I just want to know if it’s harmful to the engine. Idc about gas mileage heavy wheels and a 4 cylinder don’t make a good combo anyways. Looking at the lce street header too would that help with making them louder or would it get rid of them?

Ohhh Man would make louder fur sure!

one thing u need to figure…..
If intake/exhaust systems so free flowing…..your ECM might not be able to keep up with amount of air
    I mean, not enough fuel
Which could lead to lean conditions to cylinders……motor will lose compression
    And you’re done.

I ran a bad-ass(so I thought) motorized exhaust cut out on my STi
Basically Open headers……could close if I saw authorities nearby (really confusing them multiple times)
11k miles later, my plugs were ghost white, and had to buy a new short block bc ECM couldn’t get enough fuel to engine

there are engine management systems (haltech popular here) with a tune and you will be golden)

So I need to do a piggy back at least before the header?

    IMO
    -Engine management system
    -tune

then u can do whatever you want and keep engine happy

there are some forums here that are much more informative/specific
(And sell their stuff after updating their own)

I just wanted to express how you can do all the bolt on’s possible, then run into big issues afterwards

    the afr gauge definitely helps
But if too lean, your back to the above ^

I.E. the afr gauge will tell you there is an issue, but need mngmnt system to throw more fuel into injectors

search some guys that have super charged these Taco engines
Freakin BA, but lots of work needed to make more power……safely

Looking at the piggy back plus 5th injector kit from lCE. Would that be a good idea?

Sorry, but this is fucking stupid. You're driving it like it doesn't matter if it blows up tomorrow.

If it pops and bangs as is right now then let it. It's doing it during overrun anyway, pretty harmless. Wouldn't bother tuning anything on an NA 4 banger truck, it can handle anything a bolt on modification is going to throw at it.

i don’t drive it hard whatsoever that is why I’m wondering wether or not it’s bad. I know these trucks aren’t meant to be fast but I’d like to be slightly quick and not have to be floored on the highway to do 75 as well.
If you are going to cuss people out don’t reply to the thread. Thanks

I think it's stupid that you're actively trying to make your truck loud and obnoxious. Good luck with that. Thanks.

Dont think 2001 and later used cast headers.....should be just straight headers...

So switching to a new lce header and others would be almost the same, no gain.....

Its the 2000's and earlier that benefit from dumping the cast iron header....that are very prone to crack.

Sounds like its running rich.......I would track down that it thinks its getting too much air....
or its injecting too much fuel....

If timing was off it show similar...or exhaust crack before upstream first o2 sensor..

Driving around with a scanner watching live data is what Id do first,,,,,fuel trims, maf rate, time advance,o2 volt....
look for a wacky number on one of those....

I have a cold air intake and it has a tendency to run lean.....I'm always sporting a positive fuel trim at hwy speed...+8....
    but nearly zero at idle.

With these type filters, you need to clean maf more often.....especially little after a filter clean/reoil.....

25yr ~ 30yr truck is always going down hill....have to find various rot....forever....

I like the sound my motor makes thank you very much and I’m not making it obnoxious I still have a 14” muffler under it. I have an exhaust leak out of my stock header and my cat is damn near plugged. Like I said before, please don’t reply if you are going to be negative

Believe me, the first reply was the nice one.

This is not the way the internet works. You don't get to post something out in the public, and ask for people not to respond if it's not nice. You're subject to whatever anyone wants to say.

You post stupid rude shit, we get to post stupid rude shit back. Welcome to the world snowflake.

For mine I bought $100 stainless dropin header for 3rz off ebay.....4yr ago..

I went for a $140 JC witney cat off ebay...

And then I bought the plug and play Walker mid pipe, and its muf/tail pipe combo, and that I ordered from Advance auto...
