Oil dipstick

Help a brother out - I went to check my oil levels for the first time on my 3rd gen and damn is that dipstick difficult to re insert / the stick itself had a slight curvature to it, is this normal or should I get a new dipstick? I didn’t force it, but I found its sweet spot and it went back just a pita

 

Nope. Normal.

Those dip sticks are garbage and so hard to read.

Thanks, so I take it when I insert it I just simply need to find its sweet spot.

 

Never had a problem with my dipstick

 

Wow I can't imagine how that is such a problem given everything else in life.
Most dipsticks in modern internal combustion engines need to be fed a certain way.
They're long and flexible in order to reach the length and around things.
Usually if it doesn't work just rotate 180 degrees.

I bought it used, my 2nd gen slid right in no prob, just checking to make sure that the stick that came with this one wasn’t damaged. Good grief and…

 

Hit the end of it with some sandpaper to take off the burr, it'll work way better

 

I let my truck sit for a couple hours. Pull the dipstick out and look at it without wiping. Easy to read and make sure my level is just under the top dot.

 

Sanded and buffed the end of mine because it looked to have been shaped with reciprocating saw.
Made a huge difference inserting the stick.
Scuffing the area between the dots with a scouring pad also helps reading oil level

 

That’s cuz it’s tuned. Slippery little bastard.

 

you just gotta be smarter than the dipstick. This ain’t rocket science

I've had some resistance with my dipstick...

But I eventually get it to slide all the way down and secure it.

It is hard to read/gauge the fill point.
