Got rear-ended and pushed into car in front. Frame doesn't seem bent, drives straight. The two swivel joint where tailgate connects are bent inward a little. Front driver qtr panel buckelled in corner near taillight. Bumper & grill most of the clips are broken. Hood seems fine. 2016 dcsb SR5 with 125k.20240502_172114.jpg 20240502_172056.jpg

    sorry for your misfortune.....
bumpers work better with tailgate closed
the insurance co will tell you if its totaled - they will do an estimate on it first
hard to estimate it here from two pictures by strangers on the internet

Be sure to inform all parties that you will be seeking compensation for diminished value.

I doubt it’s totaled but the only way you will know for sure is have an estimate done and then the body shop will tell you. Don’t quote me but I think the damage has to be greater than 75% value of the truck.

Looks like if you had your tailgate up you might not have been hit or your bumper would have done its job. Doubt it's totalled.

Hey I just noticed Rhode Island. My body shop is on Cranston street, if you want it totaled I’ll see what we can do :anonymous:

Must have taken a hard hit to push the Tacoma hard enough for the front end damage.
The condition of the frame will most likely be a major deciding factor,, You will to let the insurance process work itself out, they are the ones that decide.

Yep. So many dudes think that steel bumpers actually “protect” in an accident. They make things worse.

    Small impact, sure.

great for urban environments where people often use the "parking by braille" method, but any hit over about 10-20 mph is going to be a force transfer device.

People are blind idiots. I had a 4x8 trailer. I got hit twice at stoplights when the trailer was empty by people who first stopped behind me, and then forgot that the trailer was there because they couldn't see the trailer anymore and moved forward. One guy actually tried arguing with the cop that it was my fault...
