Driver side valve cover used to have an NPT to AN -8 fitting. Which worked well enough, but always required two tools to remove the fitting. Since I was in there, I welded on a Summit Racing -8AN bung. (Made in USA )



Swapped in some new VVT oil control valves. Compliments of @zippsub9





Got it started up, and did some very brief test drives. It is very lean in some areas. Which is to be expected. Since it is getting a lot more air. I'll go over the tune on Saturday. Should take but some fueling adjustments only.

Been a few super busy weeks. Got most likely a timing related issue with the intake camshafts after the re-installation. Has what sounds like is a lot of misfires. I have not had the chance to investigate the problem any further that a brief check in the laptop, when @Lucario Runner was down. It is either the timing is off, I installed a phaser incorrectly, or the aftermarket oil control valves and the Haltech are not agreeing. I'll get back to that soon enough. I'll be needing to get that figured out soon enough.

In the mean time, to save my self and passengers from any more spinal compression, I purchased a much nicer set of coilovers for the E36 Bimmer.

Too many projects, and not enough time. Lol.

 

I believe it's the timing off by a tooth going by how it's running imo. It had communication with the vvti system so I don't think it's that. Now all you need are those madd tophats

I dug into the engine last night. To verify the timing. Everything looked good as far as I could tell.









I even rotated the engine to verify against cylinder 1's TDC.

The spark plugs on bank 2 were all sooted up, due to it running so poorly.




Bolted it all back together. Swapped in the OEM OCV's. Gave the sparks plugs a simple cleaning. Ran out of time to get it started though. Had to work on another vehicle. I'll find out tomorrow what the result is.

Fantastic news. The oil control valves were the root of the problem. Truck is running like a champ again!

 

A major shout to @BassAckwards. He helped with some data for my VVT control on my tune. For helping get their operating functions setup properly in the Haltech.

That was yesterday. Within the last two days the truck has really come around, and is way much more enjoyable in the low end from a stop.

Phasers are tracking the command angles quite well.

One thing that changed is that the 76mm started failing. Codes were popping up regularly and it wouldn't operate. I ended up swapping back to the OEM throttle body. Even with that the truck still runs better than it has in the past. Very promising progress.

More to keep coming in the future. I'd still like to get a professional behind the tune, and really iron things out.

 

For the Bimmer, I have only been able to install the rear half of the KW suspension. That alone has practically changed the car. It no longer looks like a go-kart without suspension going down the road.

Also going to share this, as this was a first or me. My friend's mother was having an issue with her car. A 1997 Toyota Corolla. If she filled the gas tank, there would be a leak and a gas smell. We ordered up some new gaskets for the tank itself. As they were all dry rotted. While I was under the car, getting ready to change the fill neck gasket, I noticed drops of gas leaking. So I pulled the tank out, and this is what I found.



So I had to wash out the tank. Used dish soap and plenty of water continually, after reclaiming all of the fuel that I could.



Once it was cleaned out, I had to make a replacement gasket because the fill neck gasket was not available.





Then got to prepping and welding the crack. I did three passes, just to have some reinforcement.



No explosions, so the cleaning method worked.

Yeah! I was extremely apprehensive. I rinsed it out for a good 30 minutes. Then did a vapor sniff test. Smelled like dawn soap only, so I felt as comfortable as I could.
