Anyone paying over MSRP for a truck right now is an idiot. You can get a real truck with a V8 and not have to replace the wear item Turbo after 100k, for $6 to $10k under MSRP if you have any negotiating power or skills.

Anyone jumping on these has a terrible case of FOMO.

I was all excited about the 365hp and 465tq too, but if the 0-60 is over 7 seconds even 65k is to much. The base sr5 is the same. I know most truck buyers probably don't care about 0-60 and 1/4 mile times but the Halo truck should be in the 5s. Any market adjustment is crazy and will not last long. If they make any decent # of these TH and Pros then there will be under MSRP deals in a year

Strange how you know that fact when none of the trucks have been driven over 100k miles yet. I have driven many turbo trucks/cars/SUVs over 100k miles without the turbos suddenly exploding like Tacoma World would have you believe.

    No beef with you.

From what I have read Toyota determines how many vehicles/how they're optioned/color etc based on 1. what they sold last year and 2. what they think they will sell in the current year.

Now we have the chicken or egg paradox. If Toyota sold 5,000 (?) Pros in 2022 (that's 4 per dealer with 1,277 dealers), did they make 5,000 for 2023? Do they get feedback from dealers? Do dealers say "I could sell twice as many, send 'em"? If they sold the 2022 Pros with a 5k mark up and then made 10,000 for 2023, do you think the 2023s all sold with a 5k mark up?

Here’s something that just occurred to me, so all the Tacomas eventually sell,
right? Whether at an adjustment or MSRP or discounted at end of model year. So maybe Tacoma uses a sales rate calculation, or they try to project excess demand.

Another important factor — does Toyota predetermine their production numbers at the beginning of the yearly cycle, or do they plan a certain quantity and then build to demand? I really don’t know, and the answer impacts what we’re talking about. Either way they don’t make an endless quantity continuously, like, say, a nail factory.

I'm trying to think how Toyota gets dealer feedback. I feel certain that most salesmen that tell you "sorry, we've sold our allocation of Pros" don't run to the manager to tell him someone was interested in a Pro. That manager doesn't have a dry erase board on his wall where he tallies "Pros we could have sold" so he has data to give to Toyota at the end of the year.

Now that the upper trims are so pricey you would think Toyota would actually allow you to spec them out exactly how you want. That would allow them to know how many to build based on actual customer demand. They would still need to build a lot of vehicles based on historical trends since a lot of people don't want to wait for something to be built. But since you can't order the even pricier Lexus cars it's never going to happen.

Another factor — Toyota is all about efficiency, so I believe their production numbers are predetermined. I don’t think they build to demand within a model year but I could certainly be wrong. I’d love to hear
I’m sure they have lots of analysts who can calculate excess demand based on sales prices and rates.

As for trims, they run their whole system on the efficiency of building only a limited number of configurations in certain ratios, a pillar of the so-called Toyota Production System.

I would not want a new pro anyway- not a fan of the black roof or the seats that hog any legroom there might be left in the rear

just get an off road and do the suspension right -

Low powered? Nah. Lousy turning radius? Dunno about the 3rd and 4th gen class, but my 1993 Volvo 245 wagon had a tighter turning radius than my current 2014 DC; By a LOT, so it's not a new thing.

As much as like my truck, it's embarrassing sometimes: especially in the Mall parking lot or my in-laws dead end road. They gather at the windows and the front door with popcorn and bet on how many tries it's going to take. (They remember the Volvo: it took -one- try.)

put an Fx4/F150 sticker on the side and they could sell it for $100K because it's hybrid.

Same thing here in PA...First one available the dealer wanted $15k over MSRP. However, I will say there are dealers locally that say as soon as they get one, they will sell it for MSRP.

You decided to buy a pro instead of an off-road. No need to knock someone’s else’s decision about a 2024 just because it isn’t for you.
