How come no one is talking about the fact he got rear ended by a Ford lightning.

Isn't that truck supposed to have all of the nannies that don't let these things happen? Lol

    It's not a clapped-out hyundai.
The data will either support it, or it won't. But you won't get a penny if you don't demand it. The OP is the victim. He's entitled to be made whole. BTDT.

That's not correct. Several states have title branding requirements, meaning that if the damage is a certain % of the value, the vehicle has to be totaled/placed on a salvage title, but there is no state (well, TX, sort of, depending upon which .gov document you read) that says "A vehicle is not a total loss until it meets x% of the value."

Nothing wrong with driving with the tailgate open when you are carrying your bike. I do that all the time. People need to pay attention when they are driving.

Unless serious frame damage no total.

Why do people tie their mountain bike down standing up like it's a dirt bike?

Maybe they don’t want their bike frame getting rashed up? I stand mine up because it is easier to roll off. Probably same reason people stand up their dirt bikes.

That bike looks like it's cutting it close to be able to close the tailgate so maybe OP can't.

I have some of my bikes I transport upright because I have a fortune into restoring them and want to ride them without letting them get all scratched up in the bed.

100%, plus when it is upright in the bed it doesn't get tossed around nearly as much. The rachet straps don't shift when they slide left and right (they can't slide because of the downward pressure of the straps).

I strap mine by the grips and the rear wheel so I don't scuff paint up.

Smart! I usually cross mine around the stem and hook to themselves and the rear wheel. I'll try handlebars! Thanks for the tip!

Stem is tough for me as quite a few of mine have a rear brake cable router

Ok so, the bike won't fit with tailgate up. Fork mount at front of bed and its a 29er. The stickers say SR5 offroad so whatever. I agree it would have been worst if tailgate was up. Got quote back front body shop. 8100. So not sure what they consider it worth. Still waiting.

    or maybe not more worser?
maybe if the tailgate was up they could have stopped or slowed more before impact?
either way doesn't matter if the bike won't fit with TG up.
