Tip. The time to ask Qs like this is before you buy, because after it no longer matters.

I agree. There are only two possible answers that you will get. Yes, you did get a great deal or no, you got screwed. The latter will make you feel like crap so I say just be happy with your purchase at this point.

If I totaled my truck tomorrow, I'd be in the market for a really clean 1st gen (I think). I just love the styling and that 3.4L engine is a good one.
IF I found a pristine one with low miles, that was overpriced, I'd pay a few extra thousand and not give it a second thought.
If you're happy with it, good for you. That price seems a little high but I haven't bought a Tacoma for about nine years now.

If you already bought it, and it has no rust, and you're happy with it, then yeah, it was a good deal.

If you didn't buy it yet (vehicle says still looking), then check Autotrader for your area and compare prices.

Yes it's 10 years old, also yes people still love the 2g. Don't look for reasons to be upset with it now, you own it.

Basically irrelevant now, post Covid and all...but in Feb-2017 I paid 31k for a 15 with 11,000 miles on it. This was at a dealership, not private.

You got an ok deal. If it's clean and no issues enjoy your truck . People are paying $60 k + for a new truck and realistically it's not a 30k better truck than yours.

    Maybe.

I bought a 2014 AC 4.0L 4x4 6MT TRD OR, 1 owner, no rust, all dealer maint records, at 62K miles for $25K in Sept. 2021.

In Sept. 2021, SPX (S&P 500 index) was 4500. Today SPX is 5300, 17% higher.

You paid +$4500 more than I did, (18% higher for the more or less same vehicle,) but durable goods in many other categories also cost 18% more than they did in Sept. 2021.

    Inflation is a real thing.

Okay, everyone with the "I paid xxx back in xxxx" answers: dude asked about the going rate. Not what did you pay 3-9 years ago.

Seems like the 2nd gen is going the way of the 1st gen and 3rd gen 4Runner, though, where clean models are starting to become scarce and demand a premium. 2015 is a pretty desirable year, too (really anything from 2013-3015, from my observation).

Sometimes it depends on the area and demand, but a good, used, Tacoma is hard to find. To me anyways, and I live in the land of Tacoma's. The "deals" here are overpriced for shit quality. Main thing you're happy with the truck. A 2015 is probably the best 2nd gen year, it has low miles, and is half the price of a new one. I've owned Toyota trucks' 3.0L, 3.4L, 3.5L, and I still like the 4.0 the best.

I paid 17000 for a 2011 TRD sport 4x4 with 200,000! My buddies have 3rd gens, nicer looking body, but my 4.0 is great best toyota engine imo

I paid $5.99 for a pound of Ground Chuck today.
I'm having second thoughts. Should I cook it or return it?

I think you got a fair deal. I’ve been hunting for a couple months now. I let one go that was $31k and 29k miles and a fair trade offer for my ‘22, but I didn’t like the color. Now that I am thoroughly sick of looking, I really wish I would have pulled the trigger on it. I am frequently seeing trucks with over 150k that are over $25k. My current front runner is a 240k example for $18, and another that isn’t even for sale yet.

I don’t know what they are actually selling for, but there are so many listed like this I have to wonder if it’s not far off base, as insane as it sounds to people who bought them before 2020.

I think you did fine, all things considered with the way the car market is at the moment.

You could look at spending $29k on a 2.5 gen Tacoma with a single owner, full maintenance records, no rust & 53k miles being like buying a CPO vehicle, except nearly 10 years late.

2014 is the greatest year BTW. It's the last Tacoma with the OG LCD clock that has been in every Toyota 4x4 for the last three decades.

As a gun collector, I long ago realized that sometimes the deal isn’t the dollars, but simply the opportunity to buy it at all. I got my 2013 unicorn Taco a year ago. I haven’t seen another in similar condition and mileage for sale since.

This is what I was thinking. If you find something you really want that is not made any longer and find a great example of one (the mileage on OP's truck suggests that it is a good one most likely) then sometimes it's best to pay the price versus continue the hunt with no way to know how much longer.

I do vintage BMX bikes and one came up for sale a few years ago that I had wanted for years. Most are in sterling shape and as such get big bucks. This was a rider (as in, it's not a museum piece) and was reasonable. I agreed to see it in 3 days and prayed it didn't get sold, offered him the full amount in Paypal immediately on first contact but he said he'd wait. Drove 6 hours round trip with cash in full and handed it over gladly.
