My 3.4 started knocking. Long story short. I bought a junkyard motor to swap in. I cannot get it to start. Seems like a spark issue.

p0100(maf)is present all the time. I can clear it and it will be there immediately

p1300(igniter malfunction)will come up once I crank the truck.

Truck will sputter/ halfway hit on starting fluid.

I’ve switched the maf and igniter with known working units. Truck never had any issues before the motor started knocking.

Just can’t figure out why it’s always present. Wiring looks fine. I’ve switched a known working one in. Beginning to wonder if the computer isn’t fried.

Did you make sure you hooked up all the grounds on the engine? I'd pay special attention to Ground Point EB on the left side of the intake manifold, should be 2 eyelets there I believe.

If those are good then with the key in the run position check for power at the MAF Sensor Pin 1 (White/Red) and Ground on Pin 4 (Brown/Black), also at the Igniter check for Power on Pin 9 (White/Red) and Ground on Pin 3 (Brown)

I have the firewall to rear of motor ground, I have the 2 on the plenum, one down on the driver side block and the one from inner fender to battery.

Well let's do the power and ground checks, see what we have, and go from there.

Assuming using a multi meter on it? Electrical is not my hotspot

Test light would be best but a meter will work too for a quick check just be careful not to shove anything into the connectors and spread the terminals, you just need to touch the pins with your leads.

I see Dm93 is working with you.
I'll stand by just incase I can help.

A 3.4 in a single cab is RARE. I like nothing more than to see that truck back on the road.
We'll get it figured out. Do those ground/power checks and report back.

out here with a test light. I have no power at all. But I do have ground where you mentioned.

on my maf I have ground on 3 pins. Pins 1, 4, and 5. Igniter I only have it on pin 8

I never noticed the ground near the igniter. I have never removed it. Will take it off and clean it. Hopefully not snap the bolt in inner fender

Check the AM2 Fuse (30A) in the underhood fuse box.

Did you have any interior connectors unplugged, specifically IF1 and IK2?

IF1 I definitely never touched. I will have to check on ik2. I typically unplug the computer and pull the harness out the firewall when I pull the motor. I may have got carried away and unplugged something I didn’t need to.

Check that and see, if it's unplugged you found your problem if not we will have to do some more pinpoint tests.

so it was plugged in. Or appeared to be. I never engaged the black latching mechanism of the plug and evidently it wasn’t making contact.

    IT FIRES.

YOU SIR, DESERVE A BEER OR A DESSERT OR WHATEVER YOU LIKE IN LIFE.

I clearly have a vacuum leak or something going on because it wouldn’t idle but it fires and starts up. I’ll get my idle and what not squared away.

I can’t thank you enough because I’m not sure I would have figured that out. I appreciate your electrical knowledge and walking me through

Not a problem, I love solving electrical mysteries.
Did you plug the MAF sensor back in?

    Great news.

Always envied the single cab 3.4.

If only Toyota would would have made a single cab with a 4.0......:D

I believe I did. I prolly have a vacuum leak or something to figure out. I had a lot of loose ends in attempts to try to get it to start. It’s mostly open exhaust at the second and it was late and neighbors are close so I was just happy to hear it start by itself. The coming days I know where my free time will be.

I was convinced it was the computer with it always throwing the code. I had took the harness casing off on the igniter and maf to look for issues and it looked fine to me but I know electrical can be real tough sometimes.
