what? you're saying if they just made a turbo v6, it'd sell like crazy? that works directly against EPA/CAFE requirements, which is why they went to an I4 turbo in the first place.

i'm also not convinced this v6 can take the turbo pressures without a ton of massaging.

2023 is the last of the line.
I paid $39.7k out the door for mine, because it is the last of the line.
When I started looking, the used prices were so high I opted to buy new instead.
Glad I did... I want no part of the 2024 v1.0.0 line, turbos, or batteries.

At my local dealer, what nobody is buying is bZ4X. They must have had 10 of them on the showroom floor! I'd buy one at 50% off, but anywhere near MSRP, no way.

CAFE is the corporate average fuel economy across all vehicles. I submit to you that R&D for forced induction on variants of the current power plants could have produced the same results for less money and resulted in way more sales. Better ROI, and would have helped pay for the hybrid research and improvements on the new power plants over time.

If you loose market share on a product line they way they are right now, all that work doesn’t count for much as a business or towards future CAFE standards.

I’m just a dude on the internet though. What do I know?

I don't disbelieve you. I do get coupons in the mail for oil changes, alignments, etc from dealerships. Maybe I've just been lucky to avoid unsolicited calls and emails from sales staff trying to get me to trade up. But I've noticed trucks are starting to pile up on dealership lots, and not just Toyota dealerships. ALL new vehicle prices are sky high, and consumers' incomes haven't increased at the same rate. Buyers just aren't coming into dealerships like they used to, and sales staff are having to contact old customers, trying to entice them to come to the dealership in order to make their monthly sales quotas.

I was at the dealership yesterday, picking up my "new" 21 SR taco (I just got rear ended and my SR5 got totaled). They were extremely busy. I had an appointment, still had to wait 10 minutes until the salesman was done with another deal, and there were people waiting to see him while he was dealing with me. All the delivery bays were full and they were using the outdoor delivery parking spots.
It was like being at the mall back in the day.
The only thing they weren't selling was the new trucks.

Yeah, that’s been my experience with Carmax as well. I’ve sold them 3 cars. I get the offer from them online, then walk in with title and keys and walk out with a check, usually in less than 30 min.

Same here. If you are honest in your evaluation in the Carmax process, the price they quote I have always gotten as well. If you lie about the condition or whatever, of course they are going to change their offer lol.

Toyota is finding out the hard way people don’t care for turbos being the only option, and they don’t want $50K+ midsize 4 cylinder pickups, especially with 8 or 9% interest rates (for decent credit). It’s all very stupid and most people aren’t falling for it.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
50k is a little much. I’m still topped out around 30k all in. Not today, I guess.

Nah, you imply it's entirely the truck and interest rates. Those are very small problems compared to everything else going on.

It's a first year model, with a different power train, released in an election year, with rising interest rates, rampant inflation, and the average person making the lease they've ever made, with credit card debt being at an all time high.

Historically, the election year part holds the most value, as many people hold off spending on big ticket items due to many newly elected officials reversing the work of the previous regime, which generally changes how those items are taxed or financed. And no one likes playing a world series game where they can't identify which rule book the ref is playing out of.

Some of this statement makes sense.
But realize that last year there was a 43% INCREASE in millionaires via the stock market, which broke all records last week at 40,000.

Rampant inflation is a result of a booming economy, we see the lowest unemployment rates in 50 years and wages are higher than ever.
I know at my house we have never had as big of an Adjusted Gross Income as we have in the last 3 years or so and it's just getting bigger every year.

Rejoice, the unhinged rising of prices on goods and services are a result of stone-cold capitalism, which is alive and well.
Unless you want the government ( ie: see Nixon ) to intervene and freeze wage increases and prices then it's going to continue.
Not too many of those on-board were around to live through that. All it did was make people more miserable LOL.

The only force that can make waves against unhinged price increases will be when people stop paying stupid prices.
But that ain't gonna happen.... the world continues to spin...
