I paid $50 for this thing, which is higher than I'd like, but I got $79 just for condenser and other guts. If I chose to scrap the cabinet instead of turning it into a coffee table, it would be well over $100...

These were tanks and a dream to work on. Only real complaint with them was the coils were hard to wash properly.

I used to simply lay my metal clipboard across the top of the service box and wash them out. Tons of these still around as Rheem/Ruud made a bunch for a long time. The later higher SEER ones that were about 50% taller were easier to work on. Some models also had a manual reset pressure switch on the bottom back panel that would rot out the rubber nipple and cause problems, but most ended up getting bypassed anyways.

Good units. I give these like a 8/10 on my service scale. That's really good.

Yep, those side mounts never rusted like the top mounts do. I liked that design.

The really old ones were Army Green and others were Brown/Tan. I never worked for a Rheem/Ruud dealer so the exacts are lost to me, but these are/were very popular in my area.

Why do you cut your coils? I simply fold them over on themselves. Cutting them just causes you extra work and you lose some material.

You can see what I mean here on the left. Evap coils get the ends cut off.

Like I said, tanks. Tough, but very inefficient. I'd love to have one in a rental I owned, but not my house.

Yeah cut the ends off, but why cut them flat is what I am asking. I cut the ends off and fold them over on themselves.
