You need to retake logic 101...Sparky. And Statistics 101 while your at it and a little reading comprehension may be a good class for you as well....Do yourself and any friends you might have a huge favor..Don't get on a motorcycle ever.

BTW More states are tossing helmet laws for adults than enacting them or haven't you been paying attention? 27 states now reversed their helmet laws with more to come. The only reason they had helmet laws was because the federal gov and the insurance lobby. The argument is great. for those who DO crash and burn a helmet is 38% effective in decreasing further injury and death. DUH? The point is more people die from smoking than from riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

by 1975 Most states enacted a helmet law in response to a FEDERAL mandate.

From 1975 to the present over half the states repealed those laws....after Congress eliminated sanctions..

5000 riders will die every year despite helmet laws..out of 5 MILLION..maybe that would triple to 38,000 since (under the HURT study helmets are only effective 38% of the time) if helmets were optional in all states....Even so that is a far cry from the 4,900,000 that arrive to their destination safely each and every time. MOst of the dead riders will have caused their own deaths. No matter what, 100,000 riders will get injured riding, Not bad out of 5,000,000 riders....

Living in the Peoples Republic of California I will give you a pass for your ignorance,

Seatbelts are the law...... Federal law. And you are far more safe in today's cars even without them then you were in yesterdays with them.

Yup, I guess you're right... helmets are stupid and serve no purpose other than to help the insurance lobby and the government... your skull will protect you when you fall...fucking idiot!

Helmets are more than 38% effective... and even so... that means they are 38% more effective than your skull

I guess seat belts don't save lives either

btw, I do ride and do have a Masters Degree... so screw you

Back to the original topic; I had a 2WD Ranger for several years with great snow tires, and never had an issue in upstate NY snow. But 4WD is sooooo much nicer. If you get snow, it's worth it.

I believe in choice. Therefore, I believe you should have a choice whether or not to wear a helmet or a seatbelt.

Helps prove Darwin's theory that way.

This is TW and that's just not allowed here.

I do agree with you, though. I lived in NJ for the first 29 years of my life and owned a 4X4 once there. All the other vehicles I owned were never 4WD and I did just fine, including that 34" snow storm back in 1996. No problems. Here in SC, I simply don't need it, although I could've used it back on December 19, 2009 when I got caught in that blizzard while heading up north (there's a thread I started around here somewhere). Was still fine in the trusty Prerunner, though. Just depends on your wants and needs.

True, and being from the Myrtle Beach area like Kingfrog, I've seen a few of them. We await the death count every May during bike week and it's sad. I absolutely hate that people die like that.

And I used to ride myself (sport bikes were my thing).

People die all kinds of ways. Cancer is a lot worse and a lot longer. Given a choice I'll take the head splatter. I have seen the former up close and personal.
..Considering the party going on for three weeks and the amount of riders without helmets (The most I read was 10 deaths in one year) ..out of over 300K... I would say its simply a non issue....I think more are lost coming to bike week than after they get here.

Like I said, it worked, but I would never go back to a 2wd truck if I could help it. There's no comparison.
I do think that 2WD trucks are underrated however. I had so many people ask me how I could possibly drive in the snow, when I made it into work more often than they did.

how many lives? Do you even know? relative to what? relative to how many ride a bike everyday in the US....Now a helmt is effective....BUT

FIRST you have to be one of the extremely unlucky 2% that have a documented injurious get off...and of that not be part of the 1.5% that screws up their own ride riding drunk, speeding, hotdogging, or taking a deeper lean in a curve assuming there was no gravel around the bend, or inexperienced new or comeback rider, So that leaves .5% .13% of which that are not seen by another vehicle or the very small percentage of animal hits... You probably have a better chance losing your life in an earthquake that I do riding without a helmet..or not. LOL

Everyday you have to ask yourself "Do I feel Lucky today?" then bundle up in all the hard stuff in 90 degree heat to "enjoy" a ride. I don't have to ask. I already know. I don;t get on my bike thinking "today might be the day" Shit..I would sell it before worrying about that crap.

I don't know who's arguing for what, but FWIW, my best friend is still alive from a motorcycle crash because of his helmet and jacket. I don't care about stats, I care about my friend, who's still with us today.

You're right man... thousands of people, several studies, and many experts are all wrong. Kingfrog you're a genius... you must know something none of these people know.

Good luck, if I'm ever in Myrtle beach I'll keep an eye out for you on the road... I'll be sure to pay attention to my cell phone, my radio, or maybe that glare from my fake hood scoop when I'm driving near you on your motorcycle without a helmet.

sticky side up... or in your case sticky side down

Yeah I READ those studies...have you? I have studied the HURT Report..Have you? The only studies people read are the studies of the 2% who do crash and they derive all their conclusions from the 2% of the entire riding population that crashes every year and end up in hospitals......Yeah for those people a helmet would have been effective 38% of the time...the idea is NOT to be one of them and that is completely up to you 99.5% of the time..No one pays attention to the 4.9 million every year who have no need for a helmet. Only those who messed up their rides without them.

I've read the HURT and the MAIDS report and I started reading the 1991 report but never finished it.

You're right, if you never crash then you don't need any protective equipment... but thats a bit arrogant to assume that none of the hundreds of factors that cause a crash won't effect you. When that time come around ,which has a high statistical of happening chance, its better to be prepared than watching you meat grind off on the asphalt all because you were "hot."

Do you wear a seat belt? The chances of a traffic accident is less that a motorcycle crash... so...?

Whatever man its your body do with it as you please... but IMO you are an idiot
