Hey everybody, this is my first post Just had a quick question about a year ago I bought my Tacoma and drove it for about seven months till I found a crack In the motor, I’ve struggled for quite a while to save up enough money to buy one and put one in until I found yesterday that the Toyota Sienna also have 2GR-fKS’ In them I was just wondering if it’s possible to take a motor out from one of those and put it in my truck and if I’d run into any issues

Probably not worth the effort to swap out everything to make it work unless you've got the know how. It's a transversly mounted engine for starters.

What side effects are you having from the crack? Smoke? Misfires?

FWD engines are a different block and will not bolt up to the RWD setup. You need a Tacoma engine

Same engine yes. But the block casting is different

A long time ago there was a member, who shall not be named, who loaded the factory tuning from another car with a 2GR-FKS engine with the hopes of making the same power. Didn't work. The truck made about 30hp less than the Camry 2GR-FKS engine. So there's more to these engines than just "2GR-FKS" and the tuning

Honestly my journey with this truck has been confusing. The truck leaks coolant. I’ve taken it to a couple of places. The first shop couldn’t find out why and after that I took it to a dealership to be inspected, after a few days of them having it they called me back and said they found a crack in the back of the block facing the firewall. I’m assuming it’s near the water bypass assembly but unsure. They quoted me 12,000 to get a used motor in the truck. Been stuck paying for it and not driving it for quite some time

Thats got to be very unusual.

I think more digging for more confirmation is in order.

My first thought would be to take a closer look at the bypass.

    This!

OP, if you don't know there is a plastic coolant bypass on the back of the motor and it's known to go bad. It's a bugger to change but a heck of a lot cheaper than a new motor

wait.. they said the back of the block is leaking coolant? you just need the bypass pipe... no need for a motor.. find another shop
fairly common on the early FKS tacos

I also think it’s the little crossover pipe at the back that is somewhat of a known issue, combined with lazy tech misdiagnosis, but I am an optimist……when it comes to machines at least..
