Fumoto Fact(s) You Might Not Know

Mr Quibble.... Father Fumoto.....

 

Do you guys use the fiber washer that comes with the valve? Or one of the Toyota blue aluminum washers?

 

I’ve always just used the fiber washer and haven’t had any issues on seven vehicles and more than a million miles combined.

 

I'm using the short version on both the Tacoma and brz. Also using the hose adapter kit to drain straight into things without worry of the flow splashing.

 

Depends on your use-case. For off-road use I find the "no nipple" version most reassuring:

I expect Fumoto has a version but EZ-Drain makes a 90 degree elbow nipple that might help some of the guys with skids and for those wondering about the amount of oil left behind by the threads sticking above the boss far more significant is the amount of time you allow it to drain. After filling the 5qt jug and 1/2 hour into the the 1 qt there was still 1/3 qt head space so I left it to continue draining overnight and it filled up the rest of the way. Not sure about the thread length on the Fumoto but it’s likely neither one sticks up past the notch in the boss far enough to account for as much oil as if you just waited a bit longer.

 

I used the fiber washer that came with a Fumoto valve. I installed that on the FJ in 2008. It’s never been removed. It never leaks.

 

I took mine off. Took way too long for the oil to drain.

 

If you are DIY'ing your own oil changes what's the hurry?

It just right…….can look at the undercarriage a bit. Then take a seat and chill with a coffee or a beer. Life is short, enjoy the small things, slow down and enjoy.

 

As I understand the short nipple (5mm) it is just long enough to snap on a drain hose of some sort.
If this is the case, it offers less exposure that does the 15mm nipple.

Both of which are still tucked in above my cross member, but could be exposed to some sort of flying object that I could run over.
The "no nipple" option is appealing for less hang-down, but also appears open to road debris, the mud, the blood and the beer, and subject to getting clogged.
A nipple with a cap seems more protected from this.

The F133-S appears to be Unobtanium.
Out of stock everywhere except eBay which I do not trust at all.

 

I find it's the perfect amount of time to get all the zerks greased up.

 

I’ve had zero issues with my EZ-drain since installing it in 2022. The nipple is removable and it doesn’t leak, period.

I understand brand loyalty but not when the alternative is doing without.

 

The EZ-drain looks very similar. Either the patent protection expired or they reversed engineered it.

 

Hmmm I got mine off Amazon. Looks like they don’t have it anymore.

It works great and my skid plate still fully covers it. A little hard to reach my hand in to flick it open and it drains slow but I’m doing my own oil changes so I can wait.
