I hate annoying people (I shouldn’t care, but I do). One unhappy customer, one real happy buyer and a happy Mike.

I’ll call that a win. Just have to deliver it next weekend.

 

This is why I hate selling stuff. Caved in and gave a boat away to a friend to spite a buyer that was pissing me off.

I'm dreading listing the Super Duty...

Whenever I sell anything I'm up front about this approach. I don't dilly dally and wait around, "next week" but they messaged first.

Selling the Stupid Duty?

 

Yeah, gonna try. I do have a minimum I'll take.
Need to install the driveshaft, new clock spring, and a few details.

I spend more on registration, taxes and insurance, than anything else. Didn't even put 500 miles on it last year.
It was acquired for a reason, and that won't happen at this point. Just freeing up capital....

 

I'm very similar. What happened was pretty simple / annoying. I listed Friday night. Guy #1 asked to see the car and we agreed to 12:30. He said he'd message me around noon. Guy #2 messaged after and was super serious about wanting my specific car as it met his year / color / transmission requirement as I guess in NH 1999 models and earlier are emissions exempt according to him. He wanted to basically give me a deposit that night to buy it sight unseen. It honestly didn't read as a scam at the time. I told him about Guy #1 and I'd contact him to confirm he was serious. Guy #1 reiterated he was serious and would leave work at noon Saturday and drive up.

Saturday comes and it's noon and silence. 12:30 comes and silence. I finally decide to see if Guy #2 is around and he said he'd jump in the car right then. I reach out to Guy #1, tell him I didn't hear from him and sorry. He immediately replies he was waiting to hear from me (what?) and it was only 12:30 and why am I moving down the list already since I said I was available at 12:30. I said you told me you'd reach out at noon and you knew I had a ton of people asking to see it today and assumed you had a change of heart. I'm sorry it didn't work out. He claimed he planned his day around me and had money waiting and thanks for wasting his day.

Now, I felt awful because that's my makeup, but if he was truly serious, why didn't he text me sometime between say 8 and 12 confirming I'm still around at 12:30. Why didn't he text me at noon "I'm off work, I'm hitting the bank, what's your address?" The second guy immediately showed, said he wanted it and said he'd go full ask if I helped him get it back up to NH for him. I have a few friends that were game to help, so at the end of the day, cool.

In the end it all worked out, but I hate that I felt bad about Guy #1, but I don't see how that ultimately isn't on me. He said he'd contact me at noon, I told him I had tons of interest (I had a queue of 6-7 people after Guy #2) so it's not illogical that he should be working to bend to my schedule right? When I looked at a WRX wagon that ultimately didn't work out in September I messaged the guy on three separate platforms to get ahold of him and contacted him the morning of, when I was on my way and when I got hung up in traffic. But that's just me, maybe the rest of the world operates different.

The offers were pretty hilarious though. I asked $12,500 due to the clutch issue (although looking I should have probably listed it for 14-15k and see if I could have gotten in the 13s). I got a $10,000 (not awful), $8,000 (borderline silly), "$7,000 cold hard cash" (great, bring another $5,000 and we'll talk) and $3,500 (WTF, mate).

 

Understand all that but guy 1 dropped the ball, that's on him. If I wanted it that bad as #1 I'd have reached out early in the morning.

Hell, I made arrangements on a Tues to look at a bike on Friday after work. Told the guy it maps out at 2 hours but not including Friday PM traffic and I'll text him early Friday to confirm. Still on, told him I'll text when I leave work. I did that. I also called him when I was about 30 min away. Turns out it was about 3 hours away all in all. But, once I got there I pulled out my wallet right away and paid him.

I'd have sent a screenshot of you texting him, etc, and not put another moments worry on it.

 

I wish I could operate like that, but I’ve got a people-pleaser side of me sometimes that doesn’t let me be the “bad guy” as much as I sometimes want to be. It’s the same reason when I list something for sale I get “this is way nicer than I thought it would be” a lot.

 

That means you take care of your shit, though sadly that seems a lost art amongst many
