I recently painted my whole 1996 Tacoma last year and felt like I did a decent job. Not super professional but way way way better than rattle can. Photos attached below of my truck before and after. I did some dent repair on my Tacoma and did high build primer to help with some scratches and to level the surface

While buying a shell for my 1996 Tacoma the guy saw my paint job and asked a quote to paint just the hood of his 1998 Tacoma. He said there isn’t much body work/dent repair on it but looking for a quote for primer and paint.

Any advice would be super appreciated

Only you can determine what it's worth to you. If you know the cost of materials, then it's just a matter of estimating your time and what that time is worth.

I used to run a lot of craft shows, and yeah this is pretty much the consensus I came too. It gets a little different if it's your primary source of income because then you have to actually make sure you can live off what you charge, but for now just think about how much you want and how much you would want to pay someone. If it's a good friend you can ask them for help or to pay for the materials too.

Paint came out great by the way.

People hit me up all the time for paint and repairs. The question you have to ask yourself is if you want to take on the responsibility if something goes wrong down the line. Can you offer a warranty of any kind? It's like being the computer guy in the neighborhood, a job is only done until they come back the next time, and the next . . . and the next. Usually I react by giving advice on what to do, but I won't do the work unless I'm really sure it's not going to come back on me.

Out here in San Diego CA, crap paint and it is crap paint is expensive. There are no autobody shops that will touch a total repaint for under $4k. CA EPA will make suprise inspections and take the filters out of the spray booth and analyze what has beed sprayed, if you have been spraying the wrong stuff, big time fine.

My 1999 F150 has had a partial paint, roof, hood and fenders, twice, and the paint just wont stick, both times it was taken down to bare metal and prepped with what is avalible here in CA. Since than I have taken my Tacoma to Tijuana for a total paint ~$1500. It is good enough, I just dont want her to rust away on me. My Tacoma in Cabo was a total repaint, ~$1500, my cousins 4Runner in Cabo, ~$1700.

If it were me, probably $2-300 plus paint/primer/clear (I have been asked for full body also but declined because it's not fun at all)
