I actually have. But from what I have seen in the past, they go on the outside of the frame rail. If they go on the outside of the frame rail, I wouldn’t be able to reattach a bumper.

My welder has a DC pulse modes that I'm estimating is around 120Hz and 2Hz. I've played with it more than a few times but I haven't been able to see any difference in the 120Hz. It my guess is that it's so fast, that all im doing is reducing the average total output current. Am I wrong?

Donut has a new episode where they add a $18,000 interior with a roll cage to the $500 ranger they are going to race. The overall welding looks good but I spotted this beauty right behind the steering wheel.

I know metal cost is of interest here, so I thought I'd update with my costs here in S Indiana. Just got home with three sheets and compared the prices to Feb, last time I bought:

    Feb Today % change
    4 x 8 16 gauge Hot Rolled $74.75 $70.25 -5%
    4 x 10 18 gauge Cold Rolled $99.25 $77.25 -22%
Edit: sorry spacing did not save on above matrix

I swear the prices fluctuate so quickly it's crazy. Place I buy from says their quotes are only good for 24hrs.

I usually cut it down to 4 x 4s before moving it to the garage, but rain on radar for about 30 minutes after getting home. Damn 4 x 10 18 gauge is hard to move by myself. Just flexible and heavy enough to be a real challenge. 4 x 10 is all they stock in 18 gauge.

Yeah I was curious with this recent purchase of 16 gauge cold rolled; it was only $60 before taxes but they're charging me for cuts now at $5 per.

They said it's to keep their pricing competitive which I don't mind. The price is the same I paid last year for the same steel.

I’m assuming you’re talking about pulse mig. As to can you see a Hz…you’re outlets in your house run on 60 hz…but we usually don’t see the light bulbs flashing. It’s that fast.

As to the where you will see the difference, then you will the results in the heat and puddle while welding something like aluminum.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Finished up a little project. Figured it would be a good one to test out the new bender.

I went to a different town for it, hoping to score a deal on scrap cutoffs. It was a ma 'n pop kind of place. The higher end big steel shops in the area are usually a little better about paying for roof repairs.

But also, it's the Midwest. The trailer tongue I welded up last weekend and left raw steel also has some surface rust on it just from sitting in the humid air in the garage. I'll get a picture of that later

    Gotcha

I just figured "new steel, no rust"

If you were getting steel delivered out here to ya, you can reject stuff for imperfections on said steel (horseshoes, dimples, etc) or even surface rust

Building a trailer out of all that steel right? That thing's gonna be beefy

I don't know how to do lightweight!

But now I have an extra axle and leftover steel, might make a smaller cargo trailer out of all of it just for fun after the main focus project is done

Oh man, I know I’m just a hobbiest when it comes to welding but man, I just had one of those days when everything came out shite. I saved the visible welds for last and they were the worst!
    :annoyed:
I’d get one bead that was reasonable and then…. Issues.

I hate to say it, but once you start producing sub par welds, but know they should be quality, step back and have a beer.

    Just 1.

I don't know why, but taking that time out just resets the muscle memory.

I know. I totally should have walked away. But I didn’t, and then I welded something on backwards!
