I was about to buy some 8020 crossbars.. but shipping is $60!! Does that seem correct? I live in the contiguous US, not some remote island..

 

Yikes!!! That does seem a bit steep for sure!!! I’m thinking shipping would be a little more due to the length of the bars but not $60.00. The outfit is more than likely using it as a profit center.

I’m thinking of putting together an affordable kit that won’t break the bank and stock it in my store (ASGOffroad.com). More than likely in the coming weeks.

I was mostly buy through 8020.net to get it cut to length and tapped. But for $60, I think I could just buy a saw blade to cut the extrusion and tap it myself.

 

Maybe also see what it would be from TNUTZ?

 

I checked out a few other sites.
- Tnutz also has very high shipping costs, too.
- McMaster-Carr has reasonable shipping, but doesn't provide a tapping service. They will cut to length, tho.
- Grainger has half-way decent shipping, but has no services & you have to buy extrusion in 2' increments. (I have one local, so I could ship to the store and pickup)

No one seems to carry the 4519 plate, tho. I would probably have to use 1x1 L brackets and have them be flush to the top. I would might that flush look, as long as I can still flush mount a solar panel between the crossbars.

(Someone is selling the 4519 plate on Amazon if I really wanted it)

 

I went back and looked at my TNUTZ orders. Shipping was between $55 and $62. I believe some of that is just the weight - orders were over $150 in materials and they used UPS.

 

Okay, that is good to know. It seems high to me, but maybe I'm becoming a cheapskate. If shipping was more like $30 I would have pulled the trigger.

Anyone else have a zero breeze portable ac unit? I think I'm going to be heading out for a couple summer trips and I'll be using my unit again. Last time I needed it, I had the thing set up all awkward up top with me. Drain and exhaust hoses poked put a half zipped door, not ideal.

Just curious how others use it.

 

I don't have one so I can't say how I have it set-up, BUT I did want to ask how well it works? I have a wedge topper similar to yours and wondered if it works decent or if you need it basically right on top of you to feel anything?

If I did have one(which I probably will end up getting it or the Ecoflow Wave2) I thought about maybe building a shelf so it sits bed-level, but without taking up space in the sleeping area...

 

It works really well. So we'll that I had to turn it way down last time I used it. It gets very cold for a small space. Doesn't take long either.

 

I built a little battery box to run my dometic fridge and power anything else in the camper (just USB plugs so far).

Not a real world test, but it has been running my fridge for about 122 hours.

 

BROG packing cubes + cheap molle fasteners worked out fine. A bit worried about the elastic fasteners

 

Has anyone done a vinyl wrap on the truck roof?

My roof is always a mess with lots of debris getting stuck in there. Since the SP makes it difficult to clean and wash the roof.. I wondered if a vinyl wrap might help keep the roof in good shape.

Might be a silly idea. Thoughts?

 

Mines wrapped black. Had it done years ago even before the X1. Doesn't really help anything. Mines always mess, maybe it hides some stuff more.. but ultimately it's hard to get in there to clean so it's usually always a mess. I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Not worth working around the X1 now imo for it.

 

Finally getting ready to purchase solar for my setup. What brands do people recommend. Looking at getting a 300w system(two 150w rigid panels).

will go with the victron charger to match my dc-dc.

 

I have only used Renogy panels, so not really experienced, but they have worked well. I have the 100 watt panels. One probably 10 years or more old and still works fine. Had to buy two newer ones because they changed the size. Built a portable 100 watt probably 6-7 years ago for a bud and it is still powering his Casita travel trailer Optima Blue Top well.
I have a Renogy folding 100 watt (actually 2-50 watt panels) portable that I use on my trailer (also a Casita) through an external plug and it has kept the lithium battery just fine.

I have two 100W flex panels + 100AH LiFePO4 battery (victron mppt controller) and have never had any issue worrying about running out of power. And that's with always powering a fridge.

What are you planning on powering and what size battery are you thinking about?

 

I have a 100ah lithium battery currently with a victron dc-dc charger.

I have a fridge that I’d like to run all the time and then a cpap I use at night. Then misc charging items and occasionally a diesel heater in the winter.
