    Hello All,
New here, first time poster. I have a 2013 Tacoma, access cab, 4cyl engine. All was fine with truck and trailer. Trailer lights worked fine, lenses pretty beat up cracked or missing that’s why I replaced them. Installed a new set LED lights. All connections soldered and heat shrieked and grounds cleaned. Tested after replacing and all functions worked fine. Couple days later my left directional arrow light stays on when headlights on and does not work. With head lights off right directional is fine, left blinks but also tail lights blink along with it. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions appreciated.

    thanks
    Paul

Is this only with a trailer connected or all the time?

Without trailer. What I did was change lights, test and put trailer away. Next day drove up to NH and noticed the problem when I got here. I have not repluged in trailer and tried it out.

    Rule of thumb:

    1. Everything was working properly.
    2. Something was changed or worked on.
    3. Now it doesn't work properly.
    4. Undo whatever was done between steps 1 and 3.

    This usually fixes most issues.

It is probably an issue with the LED Lights you installed. Or they are not wired properly. If you have a flat 4 wire trailer connector the LED's may be incompatible with the trailer lighting adapter controller.

Unplug the converter box your trailer plug goes to and see if that remedies your issue, those things are known to cause lighting issues.

So what I’m hearing is that since nothing was done to the truck, only new trailer lights that when tested all functions, stop, turn, tail, flashers tested ok that the new lights must have caused something o malfunction on the truck. I will check the adapter that was installed with trailer hitch years ago. If I remember it was some unplugging and plugging of moles plugs. Is it possible a relay got shorted out? Thanks for the help.

    I highly doubt a relay.

Odds are the trailer adapter being screwy or the LED are not playing nice with it in that order.

UPDATE: so I unplugged the trailer wiring harness and reconnected molex plugs back to original and now everything working properly. I want to order a new trailer wire kit but worry it will do the same thing. Should I junk new led trailer lights and try to get new regular ones

Just get regular tail lights for the trailer.

I mean LED trailer lights shouldn't hurt anything if they are wired properly, those converter boxes fail all the time though. Had one person on here get like 3 bad new ones in a row.

    That's what I'd do.

LED certainly has it's place. It's all my house and garage has in it now.

But we see lots of problem posts when folks retrofit some of these things to older vehicles.

My '13 has LED domes that I put in, and I tied the front to the rear so both come on at once. But that's it.

I would. LED conversions seems to cause more issues than they solve IMO.

I have a 2013 4 cyl double cab pre runner. I replaced the front running yellow bulbs with LED's but had to install resistors to make them work.
Last fall I installed a LED light kit on my utility trailer but did not have any issues.

Thanks everyone for your input. I called and spoke with a tech rep at etrailer and they told me my old wiring adapter would not support LED and told me to get a new one with compatible converter. Possibly guy was just trying sell me a new one but he spent a lot of time with me on phone explaining things and for only a small part. So I ordered the new modern one, $48 and we’ll see what happens.

I work at a marina and you wouldn't believe how many of those converter boxes I've replaced. For whatever reason, they're generally junk.
