Removed the old transmission position sensor. Cannot get the metal off the shifter spindle to put the new one on. Is there a trick?

Get a dremel tool with a cutter wheel. Carefully cut a slot in the part stuck on the shifter spindle. Once you have a slot you can use a screwdriver and open up the sleeve to remove it.

Just go slow and take your time.... Don't try too much force as you don't want to screw up the transmission.

    This is good advice.
Do not pry on it too hard.
There is a seal that the shift rod goes through.
If you damage that seal, you have to OPEN the transmission to replace it. It can only be installed from the INSIDE of the transmission.
It's not serviceable from the outside. Cutting a slot in it is the best way.
