    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    It happens bro.

Once shit starts going down hill, I get this stubborn instinct to keep going. When I totally know I should do exactly what @koditten said.

I am getting better about walking away when needed. But it happens.

and for those with addictions, it doesn't even need to be a beer. just put the gloves down, go inside, add some ice cubes to a glass, pour some water, and watch the ice cubes melt. or clean up your work bench...

When I said "come over, sit down, have a beer" it seems you took my words out of context

    You do you though :luvya:

talking about rusty metal... this is my trailer tongue that's done nothing but sit bare and uncoated in an unconditioned but dry garage for 9 days since i welded the other side.

the place i got the steel from was a small mom 'n pop shop, they had about ten 20' sticks of 5" c-channel, and i bought 4 of 5 sticks of 3" c-channel. they threw in the 5th stick for free, as one of the 4 was 17', and the 5th on-site stick was 8'.

so yes, i could have rejected it, but i took off work for the holiday weekend, and moved those plans one day back to specifically be for steel purchase. every steel shop is open for 8 hours a day during the weekday, i work 10 hour days. the reality of not being retired ;)

there's absolutely no other time i could've gone if i had them order it or it'd cost even more in delivery charges, which starts to be a different sort of hassle, getting it delivered to a residential address, and then also trying to specify where they can drop it so it won't get picked up by a scrapper before i get home from work(i'm 5 miles from gary indiana)...

i could've also called up some older contacts at some of the larger steel supply places, but i honestly didn't know how that would go. the main contact i have is the father of my old boss that i left last year to start the new job, and he's not doing so hot since i left...

I want to weld a rear bumper. Does anyone make an unwelded kit I can start with? I'm looking for a swing out

I designed and cut a sign for one of my all-time favorite movies. That's the march to the OK Corral:

    Tombstone 2.jpg

Haven't completely decided on paint yet. There will be a backplate. Their coats obviously black, and brown for hats, but the rest is TBD. Probably try to add a hint of white for the collars. I hate painting.

    Make your own!

Or just go with Coastal, mentioned a lot here and in many other threads

Save money and incorporate your own swingout; a lot of these rear bumpers with swingouts are easily exceeding $1,500+

I don't have a plasma cutter. I have an angle grinder and a portaband. I know I could do it with those but it would be nice to not try and cut 1/2" plates that way.

The second one shown actually had a mini cut off wheel used (before I owned a cnc table).

Plenty of people do even better work with less.

I have the coastal front. Good project. Made my own rear for the fj40 with 2 swing outs with a Bandsaw and grinder. I did buy these frame plates to make the rear for the Tacoma. Outside of this plate I think everything else is manageable with the grinder and saw.

    Yep!

But if not going DIY, the Coastal Kit can all be welded and finished in just a short afternoon.

You can design around the tools you have. For mine I just did 3/8 frame plates cause I have a buddy with a table and there was minimal weight gain with it.

Or could always send cut send any of the thick stuff that isnt worth cutting with an angle grinder. Itll only be a few parts

Then we decided we didn't wanna work so hard anymore

Knocked out another one of these for my uncle

Bottom panels will get welded at his place to keep it light for easy transport

CNC makes quick work of making "flat stock" when you don't have the right size on hand

Also, I was replacing my nozzles every 400 pierces cause they were wrecked and oblong causing beveled cuts

This nozzle has 400 pierces, all on refrigerated air

    20240528_142245.jpg

Safe to say my refrigerated setup is going to damn near double my consumable life
