Loaded up bike this weekend with almost all gear I’m taking moto camping. It’s really not bad on road. We will see about the Offroad portion. Might change to soft panniers.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
lol, yeah I could smell that someone in this forum just put some mad miles on their duke! I have been well brutha, just getting things in order.

speaking of KTMs, I noticed some dealerships have some insane deals on Huskys right now.

Happy for you having such a new moto experience and getting to do something new with your GF. Sissy bars etc...the things we do for love.

Not at all. That's the way I've been all along. I wanna hear the motor watch for EVERYTHING, allow my brain to engage the ride and whatever life has going on at the time.

And now it all changes. Just put a Cardo on my helmet for this business related ride. They're gonna pay me mileage, but I have to be available, so I made the call. Also I'll be riding in 100% new to me areas, so I'll indulge in the GPS prompts as well. I don't know that I'll succumb to having 'entertainment'. At this point, the idea is not to. Basically I'll allow the prompts, I 'll be aware that a call or text has come in. I'll be able to VTT a quick 'busy, will call shortly' sort of message and then followup at the next fill up (every 150 miles on the GRiSO).

Not looking forward to the learnig curve. Old dog, and all that.

About to throw a Cardo/GPS question to the group, so stay tuned!

I'm set to inherit this '04 Road King. It's got me thinking about selling my '11 Forty-Eight to pay off some recent medical/credit debt. Thoughts? Is it worth selling the Sportster? What's the going rate on them? I figure between $5-7k.

@MadDaddy I'm not a Harley guy....but man o man, That Road King is just a beautiful machine. On top of that it seems it must have belonged to someone important to you. Kind o' cool.

just a couple of things tbh
Felt better so out the new skda graphics on and overall I like it a lot but they did drop the ball on these in spots..

The overall graphics are great but the headlight even thou they showed me one thing ended up being different so it didn't fit and I had to cut it to fit and I didn't do the best job... Which is dumb since I just had them make a graphic for this headlight shroud!

The gas tank I knew was going to be difficult since skda doesn't know how to do a graphic for it so I told them that's fine but if you could just make it larger so I could trim it. Which they did on the right side but the left side was a completely different cut and size... So I had to trim both sides to try and match each other... Other then that it's fine just kinda disappointed in those two( well 3 since it's 3 stickers lol)

    Apple Maps

What is a good simple to use tool to plan AND record AND navigate? What're aya'll using. As mentioned above i have just added the Cardo to the mix, so I'll be using it this weekend.

I've used Rever for a few years now. I really like they're ride planning tools, specifically for the butler maps tie-ins. Last year I did a ride with it and it lost GPS and re-routed for FOREVER, where I had to pull over multiple times to get it to sort it's shit out since I don't put my phone on my bars and had to pull it out to figure out what was up. I believe they've since added the option to download maps and adjust some other settings to help, but man was it frustrating.

If I'm just going point A to point B and don't care what route I take, I used apple maps. The vibration for turns through my watch is super helpful.

How are you planning routes, @spencermarkd, just logging in on a laptop and saving a file?

Braaapp! Hope you're having fun with yours too. And yeah good deals there, what bikes you got your eye on?

I'm new to the Cardo / communicator world and gotta say they are pretty sweet. Easy to set up and get the hang of. Being able to talk to your riding buddy is awesome and it's nice hearing the navigation steps. I never listen to music while riding but I was doing that too and really liked having it on that long trip. I'll see how often I use it on my typical solo rides but it's nice tech to have when needed.

My wife worries a lot when I'm out, I always share my location but this will make it even easier to stay in touch with her.

I'm anticipating the same use/experience. And yeah, my GF is super nervous. She read a bunch of posting on the Facebook TOTD pages, which are largely populated by idgits. Both the squids who think it's a private track and f everyone that doesn't feel the same, and honestly people from every other faction, being equally bullheaded. It's facebook. But now she's not pleased. Being able to shoot a quick text or call while gassing up without having to take shit off will be great.

Sorry to hear about your pup, man. That's very sad but I'm sure he's at peace now.

Also congrats @FreshOldTaco and @BkerChuck on completing the ride!

Going to put this into a spoiler because there are a lot of screenshots..

Kind of? You can do route planning in the app but it's much easier on a proper computer. This is what the screen looks like, and then you can either add in towns as waypoints, double click the map to add a waypoint, or drag/drop the route. All of the yellow/red/gold are butler roads that are usually great. The grey/green/dark red are ADV/lost highways/dirt roads. Butler map road coverage really varies by region, though, some areas are totally unmapped for it.

    upload_2024-5-28_9-41-21.png

Here is a route I had planned last year for a quick day loop:
    upload_2024-5-28_9-46-3.png

And then when I go into the app, I can just pick it from my planned routes and hit go. I don't need to download or transfer or whatever. You can actually download gpx tracks for use with other things too, though.

Here is what a tracked ride can look like on a computer. On the phone you can actually do a like 3d view fly around of a 3d map, which is kind of cool sometimes.

    upload_2024-5-28_9-43-15.png

Since Comoto (revzilla, cycle gear) bought them out, they've been making a ton of improvements to everything. And it does a ton more than I've touched on. it'll do live beacon map links for folks to follow you, theres a social network aspect to it, and different mapping modes, etc. etc. If you have Revzilla's RPM membership whatever you get rever pro included, which makes so much sense to use it then.

Offline google maps that I have mapped out a route and figured out searchable things with the offline results so I can have google maps direct me totally offline.

I also use google "my maps" (different than google maps) to plan out the same route (using those same searchable things) which allows you to export the route via KMZ file, move that to my offline phone and use GPX Viewer pro with a different offline map set within that App.

On said offline spare phone, Pull up gpx viewer load that route, pull up google maps, put in my first stop from that route and start navigation, put google maps PIP on top of the full screen of GPX viewer. Its worked well for me.
