these days that is sorta like playing russian roulette
and can bleed you dry QUICKLY
them pros all want 150$ and up to find absolutely nothing out of order when you know there is something out of order and just have to drive it until whatever it is breaks

does that Redline handle excessive heat well?
i found some mentioning on a uTube gearbox channel about some MT fluids like to boil and breakdown

If we're talking manual transmissions, heat buildup is really a non-issue, so don't think that matters much.

But FWIW, I've had redline MT-LV in my '03 for about 4 years now, and have no complaints. Original trans (R150F) shifts smooth as butter

I have not seen any hard data on that. Best to ask Redline for their data. I can tell you that my '97 V6 Taco Xcab 4x4, loaded to the MAX with heavy hunting/shooting gear, had no problem repeatedly running 426 miles at 80 MPH even in the summer heat with no problem. I did that run 6-8 time a year for 16 years driving from work in Houston Texas to my hunting camp in MS. The original R150F tranny shifted just a little smoother with the Redline VS the Amsoil. But both shifted WAY smoother than with Mobil 1. It will be very interesting to see how my Marlin rebuilt R150F shifts with Reline MT-90 once the 10K mile break-in period is done.

EDIT: The usual culprit I have seen when manual tranny gear oil boils has been water in the gear box. Last time I saw it was with an old military M38 Jeep I was picking up for a friend. It sounded just like boiling seafood but smelled like sulfur. I also rebuilt that 3-speed manual gearbox.

during that R150F presentation from Timmy at Yota1 there was mention of a 'transmission fire' and how black it all was inside
so i was just curious about it

i am in a VERY cold climate area with temps during the winter usually well below zero degrees in the winter mornings
and that Mobil1 MT gear oil in the morning start that shifter stick was like a frozen DQ Blizzard until a few miles to the freeway and it warmed up
switching to Redline and there was no more cold stiffness in the stick

Mobil 1 performed much the same for me in LA/TX/MS every time it got down near freezing while Redline MT-90 has done fine for me down to 8F. My original use of Amsoil was because it was supposed to withstand up to 10% water contamination without losing its efficiency. But I quickly learned that if you get even a small amount of our sandy/muddy water in your tranny/Tcase/diffs., the sand in the water will kill the bearings extremely quickly as in days. The coldest ambient ground temperature I have operated a B737 in was -37F up in Edmonton Canada, so I have a very good understanding of oil & fuel flow problems at cold temps. At -40F/-40C, I couldn't even attempt an engine start because of lack of oil flow. Even our normal Jet A fuel starts turning to a gel at -40F inhibiting flow.

not to rain on your parade but I have a marlin crawl home rebuilt R150F in my 2002 4x4 taco which was done by the previous owner at around 280k. Truck has had a trans leak since the day i bought it (305k) and looking through the previous owners service records it developed the leak not 10k miles after it was installed. i'm at 390k miles now and third sucks to get into, won't go into reverse cold without a few tries, it whines like a train and instead of leaking from one place it leaks all over. although i'm in the market for a rebuilt R150F I would NEVER trust Marlin for one.

Does it weep where it mates to the transfer case?

Lots of people are running Marlin R150F rebuilds with no problem. 2 years in on my Marlin rebuilt R150F with no runs/no drips/no errors, so I am one of them. I liked the idea of the HD bearing retainer plate and thrust washer. Marlin's biggest problem with the V6 Taco R150Fs was finding rebuildable cores.
