    2016 TRD Sport V6 Manual

Truck is basically stock except up one tire size and OTT in January. Current 86k miles. Oil change is about due and air filter was changed at OTT . Will be due for plugs and all fluids changed soon

About 6 weeks ago I noticed this happening. It does not do it all the time but recently has gotten a little more frequent.

When I take off and shift into second the truck sometimes just falls on its face and kicks bucks then snaps out of it and accelerates fine. I have tried to see about what the RPMs are when I shift from 1st to 2nd and its in the neighborhood of 2500-3000. Doesn't matter the air temp outside. Doesn't matter if I let truck warm up first or start and go. Although it seems a little more frequent when engine is not fully up to temp.

2nd issue is it has backfired twice. Not loud. When making a turn or driving in a roundabout as I come out in 3rd gear and start to accelerate is when it has happened. Only has done it twice. But basically the truck just fell on its face kicked and bucked and backfired. Ive tried downshift to 2nd and accelerating out of the corner but RPMs are way to high and traffic stacks up behind me. 3rd is the obviously the correct gear and the RPM is around 3000-3500 when I start to accelerate and the issue happens.

Im not hauling anything and truck is empty except for me and gas. No lights have ever come on so I have not had it scanned. I didn't know if scanner would reveal anything since no codes have been thrown yet.

It acts almost like a fuel filter in need of replacement but its totally sporadic and I may go days before it does it again. All the other times truck runs great ive owned since I bought it with 43 original miles. With previous vehicles I have owned when a fuel filter is plugged its a consistent issue until replacemed. I don't think its the fuel filter and I am only aware of the truck having one in the tank.

Oh and it doesn't matter which way I turn and accelerate when it happens. Some have been left turn then accelerate and some right. Roundabouts of course are mostly a left turn

    Thanks for any help

Pedal was set to Mild with the OTT. It ran great after the OTT in January and this didn't start until March maybe April. I spoke to the tuner who offered to scan it its just we are having scheduling issues on getting together. I agreed with him that if it ran perfect up to April the tune is likely not the cause. Computer codes just don't change on their own unless acted on by a virus or malware. How would that have happened when its not an open network system

Retune it to stock and see what happens.

My 2008 2.7L did the exact same thing. It was an ignition coil on the #3 cylinder.

I think your plugs were due at 60k miles. I would get those replaced. A good scanner can see misfires happening live. Sometimes you can have a cylinder misfiring and not throw a CEL. Agree with the others, flash back to stock for now.

Ya, ask your tuner to look for codes anyways. Drivability codes should throw on the light but it's possibly one is pending and the concern is just not happening frequently enough to actually set the code and light. It's also not a bad idea to change the plugs if you were planning to but otherwise see if you two can go for a drive and monitor the misfire counter to see if you can narrow it down to a cylinder.

You could also try cleaning your throttle body and maf to see if that changes things.

Outside of that I would try to either reflash the tune or return to stock for a bit and see where that gets you. Update us when you find out what the cause is

this is my suspicion as well. plugs might be a little old if they're original, but won't be causing the issues as much. those generally result in a unstable/rough idle as they age.

Have you had the fuel pump recall done? Your 2016 is covered for 10 years regardless of mileage.
