That particular neighbor has only continued to get weirder. All of her windows to the street side are now covered in sheets. She painted her garage door and front door black. We see her
outside MAYBE once a week. Hardly ever do they walk their two poor dogs.

I bought a house that had to be remodeled. The lady that had lived there was not hitting on all cylinders. It was scary bad. The furnace was on the front porch for years... and this is in South Dakota with minus 40 relatively common. She'd painted all the windows black on the inside, and busted holes in the walled that she painted the insides of the wall black with white crosses. I probably found twenty or more mop handles with a used paintbrush duct taped to one end. It gets more weird but I'm not going there.

We had a lady up the road that did some kind of "spiritual cleansings" on houses and she dropped in to tell us we would need one... but after we finished she came to tour the finished house and she told us the house no longer needed a cleansing.

Tp be fair, it's Beaumont. The ones to worry about in that town are the ones that seem normal.

I worked to support FEMA in the Beaumont area after Hurricane Harvey. I'm convinced that area is almost entirely weird people so being considered the weird neighbor there is quite the accomplishment.

We have this neighbor . . . How many stories begin with this innocuous sounding phrase?

So we have this neighbor, around the corner, on a corner lot He's in his 90s now. Maybe he just looks that old. He has two cars in his driveway, neither of which has been registered in five years. There's also a boat on a trailer in the driveway, and it's been there since 1996. He also has a twin-tail single-engine airplane in his side yard. The right-hand tail hangs out over the fence on the sidewalk side. The wings are leaning against the back of the house, adjacent to the algae farm that used to be a swimming pool. For about three years, his front yard was decorated with old PC-type computers. His wife either died or moved away a long time ago. Nobody is clear on what exactly happened to her. His two sons moved away and only come back when the police department beg them to check on him. He had a turbulent relationship with his sons, and one remarked, "I don't visit because every time I do, the police come and one of us gets arrested." The old man will occasionally fall down outside and be unable to get up unless someone notices and helps him. People seldom notice because he is so disagreeable. When they actually notice, 911 gets called and the local authorities send a limited response for people like him. But at least he is quiet.

He bought the house--oddly--from the city police head of the homicide division, right when he had been promoted to be the interim chief. As interim chief, he promised two years and moved his family to a bigger home. His wife has visited from time to time, apologizing for what happened. All we can do is shrug and smile. His time as interim chief lasted nearly 8 years and he was one of the best. Whenever there's a police response, I mention to a responding officer that Chief (insert name) used to live there. The response is usually, "No shit! Wait'll I tell the guys at the station!"

well i got an earful from the crazy neighbor lady yesterday..
she has been quiet since i called animal control on her

she had the gall to complain about a house around the corner..
this house has a smallish pit bull dog that doesn't give a fuck about the e/fence..
the dog charged out at my dog when mine was a puppy - the wife came/found me and apologized, which is more than most do in that situation
i have seen it get loose one other day, with both the wife and daughter chasing it
crazy lady almost hit it with her car [or so she says]

So crazy lady told me a story about how the pit bull thing got out and charged at her/her dog.
Her dog got behind her and somehow tore a ligament in its back leg, something something; and now her dog can't go on walks, can't get on the bed, and a few other activities..
This is the same woman who used to let her very aggressive Pyrenees run loose - the dog bit my dog and my dog fought it off, it bit my neighbors dog and killed another neighbor's dog; then and only then did animal control make her put it down.
As she was complaining about the rouge pit bull, all I could think was 'this is some karma, 100%'.
I just shut my mouth and moved along as quickly as I could

Amazing how now it's all kinds of an issue, isn't it? Yikes..though I've long said there are times when people might learn if the thing they do happens to them.

That said, I hope it's not true about her dog getting hurt..regardless of what a crummy person she is.

I love pit bulls and have owned many with different personalities. They get such a bad rap, but it's all how they're raised.

    Can't like that...

Genetics are at least as important.

That does play a role. I've some that were couch potato's and some that were terrific guard dogs. My current one is half couch potato and half mooch.

Yup... and any that could be triggered and dangerous are as likely to be in either group. Genetics are invisible.

I disagree with that. That stems from stupid and irresponsible owners and possible animal abuse. Has nothing to do with animal breed.

I have no issue with the [pit bull] dog..
This is owner thing - her son keeps carelessly letting the dog out, because she won't teach the boy correctly

We have another boy, the same age, who knows not to let his dogs out when I/anyone is walking by
I went by one day, this boy let the dogs out, saw me and immediately grabbed the dogs and went back in
Both boys are 8-10 yr old..

My adjacent neighbor has a pit bull that was bred to hunt wild hogs
The dog acts/sounds vicious AF but in reality, she is a sweetie pie
She will bark like hell when I approach but as soon as I enter the gate and go in, she is up on the table licking the hell outta my face

    ANY dog can be dangerous
Genetics and how they are raised both play a factor
I've seen sweet AF pit bulls, I've seen labradors that will attack without warning

I am sad for her dog - if the dog really is injured...but I don't feel bad for her.

That being said, this is her 3rd dog in the ~15 years I have lived by her.
All of her dogs have been very very anti/social.
At this point, it isn't the dogs, it is her.
IDK what she does/how she trains them but she sucks at it and it shows in the final result; her dogs are aggressive, don't mind properly and cannot be off leash even in her yard without causing a problem.

Her daughter lives with her and owns a black pit bull.
That dog never does anything wrong.
It seems nice, it is always in the fence or is directly supervised and it listens/behaves/doesn't run at anyone.

From that article: All dog breeds can inflict a bite; breed is not an accurate predictor of whether or not a dog will bite.

And: statistics should not be used to infer any breed-specific risk for dog bite fatalities without also noting the numbers of each breed residing in the US.

IF we aren't normalizing the data for the sheer # of each breed in the US, then the stats are worthless.
The above quotes indicate that the data is indeed worthless.

One of my neighbors has indoor/outdoor carpet on his split level deck for their dog to piss and crap on.
He doesn't want pet stains on his lawn.

I've heard of people doing this, too. I don't get it but I'm also not one of those people whose self-worth is attached to having a pristine lawn.

Speaking of this with crazy neighbors, when I was a kid living in TX we had a neighbor on our street that would leer at us from his porch whenever we all played outside. If a kid so much as accidentally hit a ball onto his lawn (or god forbid, stepped on it) he would flip the hell out and threaten to shoot if it happened again.

that's the kind of guy I imagine having a carpet outside for his dog to crap on
