How much am I possibly looking at to get the detonation I am having in my truck corrected. For context, I’m getting the sound of little taps or bottle caps hitting the bottom of my front end. I have no idea what’s causing it or how to go about diagnosing and repairing.

1st thing is to try a tank of premium and see if it stops.

When did you change plugs last and what kind?

Are you running hot at all?

Carboned piston tops can contribute. Do you do anything to prevent that?

Clean your MAF, then add fuel injector cleaner. Be sure its actually knocking..

Can it be the fuel pump or injectors?

It can be a few things. But starting simple with common items is a practical approach

There's a reflash available to correct this, do note that if you plan on adding a supercharger the update makes your ECU unable to receive the supercharger tune.

As DM93 said and provided, the TSB should correct the pre-ignition problem, if that is your problem. I had it within 6 months of buying my truck new in 2013, lived with it for 2 years (using 93 octane gas), then had a dealer take care of it once I found out about the TSB. I printed out the TSB and brought it in to the service guy. Problem resolved. No charge. Back to 87 octane. Strange that it is starting now after 8 +- years on your truck however.

Ray (OP) - curious: did the Toyota dealer that did the update to your ECU put a sticker under your hood noting that the ECU was updated? I thought that that was supposed to be done. I did not get one and the service guy shrugged when I asked him about it. I have the service summary as proof if needed - which no one has asked about.
