I'm not exactly sure the purpose of the clip.

All I know is...when I did my recent oil change in April, the housing did not vibrate off the base straight section of the rim where the clip is located.

EDIT: That area you have circled looks like a "winglet" to help with un-torqueing.

Rethink what position? That it’s easier to over tighten the plastic housing than the metal one? Sorry that facts evade you.

Really dude??? There is no way you can get another 90 turn unless you are breaking stuff. Physically impossible. Not happening.

Bullshit apparently you’ve never ever met anybody in the US Army. Every time I’ve ever said that something couldn’t be done people can do it. You’re very naïve if you think this can’t happen.

nope, not happening. Sorry. Same concept as a shoulder bolt. Stops right there. If you go any further you snap it off. Then your just an idiot.

so I assume you have used both the plastic and the metal on our trucks? I have. The metal one works better. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

just realized you’re the dude that argued with me back and forth about the platinum iridium spark plug thing. Obviously you’re an fing know it all who cant be wrong. I’m old enough to know not to argue with a fool “because onlookers might not know the difference.” so you win nitwit

Have you ever actually done an Oil Change on these trucks?
Idiot or not, Its really easy to over tighten both of the Caps if you try.
He's right, there are people that can break an anvil.

Greg is a pretty knowledgeable guy on these trucks, I think you're out of line.

my drawback on the metal one is the thread damage that might occur on the engine side.....
    both can get cracked
toyota has been using the plastic one for a long time so they must have faith in it
    the plastic is very tough

Do YOU have a metal housing? It cannot be tightened to the extent mr know it all said it could be without breaking it. The plastic one is a different story.

Im not the one out of line. He stupidly argued about spark plug ls a few weeks ago and was WRONG. Well he’s wrong again.

Filter housing is attached to the block. You can replace it if manage to damage threads

THIS is a better argument against the metal one and one I considered. I keep my stuff clean and it spins on by hand. I could never do that with the plastic one. It was tight going one or two turns in. i always thought I was cross-threading it. Well, the first 3 oil changes anyway.

I actually have both, and don't have a problem with either,
other than the metal one maybe being prone to galling.

I actually have dealt with both types in the past as well on other Toyota Products.

Actually, both a metal and a plastic cap can both very easily be over tightened
if you don't use a torque wrench

yes, there is a “block adapter” for the housing if that’s what your saying.

No. Its not. As Vlady stated above, the filter housing is separate from the block and can be replaced.

Not sure what you mean. I commented on his post. There’s an adapter that goes on the block.

no, I really didn’t stupidly argue about a spark plug a few weeks ago. I have the actual spark plugs in hand that is listed on Toyota website. They are not the bullshit, spark plugs that you kept hounding about.

you have a good day, sir bless your heart

Why lie? You never said what the denso part # was. You kept posting some generic description of plugs that said platinum along with the OEM part #. Obviously just a website misprint that is still active now on my Conicelli parts site. Go on their site now with the part# below and read the description which is what you posted. Now order the part and guess what, you’ll receive the FK20HBR8 IRIDIUM spark plug.

So why didn’t you just pop said spark plugs out of the box you had in your hand and read the manufacturer part # like I asked you to do several times? YOU said our trucks require platinum plugs, which is wrong. They come with iridium plugs. Maybe you can use them. Ill bet you can but that’s not what you argued.

I’ll bet most people here would like to save a few bucks per plug and get the SAME OEM 90919-01263 which is the SAME as FK20HBR8, which are iridium, the same as I took out if my truck.

Listen man, i come here for information, not to argue. I also contribute. But im willing to admit when im wrong. I did in a thread about a thread I created about updating from 2.0 to 3.0 entune and I did it proactively, without anyone saying I was wrong because I sincerely only want correct information out there. I know there’s a lot of opinions here and maybe this thread is one but there simply is NO WAY your turning the metal housing another 90 degrees after it makes full contact with the adapter.

If you don’t wanna argue, then quit arguing.

Bring your truck over to the shop. I’ll show you that you can go 90° past contact.

Toyota calls it oil-filter bracket sub-assembly where you screw the cap. Technically, it attaches to the upper oil pan. ~$100

    in Indiana??? Yeah ok dude.

I think the burden of proof is on you. I’ve already proven it to myself by seeing for myself, the range of motion once it makes contact and stops. So you order up the metal housing and prove your 90 degree claim correct because i know you’re wrong given my experience. Make a nice video for all to see. Maybe put it on that YouTube thing you’re part of. I think it would make great content.

Oh and while you’re at it, order those spark plugs you say are platinum and read the manufacturer part number. Kill two birds with one stone.
