Hello fellow Tacoma owners. My first post here so lemme have it! I'm currently arguing with my local Toyota dealer over this paint mismatch on my rear bed panel. The body shop personnel are all telling me this is a paint color match but I say no. Hopefully you can see from 20240526_003621.jpg my phone photos that the repaint is bright white and my cab is more off white? I already told them it looks like they used super white rather than Ice Cap but they insist this is the factory color. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Should'nt they be able to match the color? 20240526_162834zx.jpg

Was this bought new or used? If you bought it used,,, I’d say you’re probably SOL,, unless they choice to make it right.

Take it to a collision center of your choice, they can probably compare the paint code. If they are with you, have them make a quote and explain. That would be more credible.

Is that gap between the bed and cab right? I'd have to look at mine to compare. It looks like yours is touching pretty much. Oh, and the color is off.

    Good catch!
Yes, that gap looks wrong too. I just looked out the window at mine, and there’s more of a gap. This truck may very well have a story to tell.

You probably get better traction with the dealer if the gap is off. It hard to argue that your bed is touching your cab. Although, it shouldn't be hard to argue those are 2 different colors.

Color is off and bed is too close to back of cab. Did you buy this new? If it was repainted any body shop will never get it to 100% match as they mix whatever brand of paint they have to whatever formula they have on file. If it was bought new like that you might have some traction with Toyota Corporate for repairs, but no guarantee they'll pay.

From what I've read Ice Cap flakes off over time just like super white. In which case you can repaint it then. :anonymous:

OP, give us some feedback, did you buy it from the dealer this way or did you have a repair done? Either way the color is a terrible match and the bed alignment is way off. Did you not see this when you bought it or had it repaired? If this was a repair you should have never left the shop with it.

I had this argument with someone on here before... I have plenty of auto body experience and I also worked for 12 years in the paint shop, within the manual repair area of a big auto manufacturer.

I can't see the difference in the pics but sounds like panel painting is your issue. Black is the ONLY color you can panel paint. Example: Drivers door takes a hit and needs repair or replace. You can paint the door and throw it on and be done. Same scenario with ANY other color and you'll have to paint the door, feather (blend) it into the rear door, feather it into the fender, A post, and so on. It'll just ever so slightly die into the existing paint and you'll never realize it. Pearls and metallics are super hard to mimic so it's critical to do that. Even when I was working for the manufacturer, these cars were painted less than an hour ago sometimes and thats how we repair them. But, as you guessed it, panel painting is much easier too, so thats why you see so much of it. I guarantee, that you see it daily if you knew what you were looking at. Whenever you're out and about, driving around, if you see a vehicle thats got a random panel just slightly miscolored from the rest of the vehicle, thats it.

Would like to see a better picture. It looks like the cab is in a shadow and the bed in full sun. Same in your garage but no sun. Try taking a picture all shadow and all light. From your pics it looks mismatch. Agree with Dubdaddy86

I bought the truck new. I had mishap with a traction board that got wedged between the cab and truck bed. The body shop straightened the fender and repainted it. 20240410_184607.jpg I picked up the truck took it home for the weekend and brought it right back when they opened. The dealer has had the truck for the last few days.
