Recently had my OTT tune reflashed from version 7 to the version 9 Emissions compliant tune. Just drove the truck 1250 miles from SF Bay Area to north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Lots and lots of elevation changes. Generally kept it on cruise at 80mph. Overall mileage for the entire trip was 20.6. Was running with fairly full load and cab-height Snugtop Rebel.
Checked via hand calculation at every fill-up, and those numbers were typically .2-.3 mpg higher than what the Tacoma displayed, so the overall trip mileage may well be higher than 20.6.
The tune performed great, noticeable improvement from OTT-7. I’m very pleased.

Did a trip with gradual up hill and had it shift from 5th to 4th three times in quick succession. Not a steep grade and no one in front of me with cruise set for 70. This has happened intermittently in the past as well. Can't find program information but believe it was the "2nd level response" from a basic from what I recall from the initial install. Thanks for any information suggestions.

3rd gen 2022 double cab with a few lighter wt mods. (32" or so tires, camper topper, winch with Aluminum bumper, lift) if that matters.

Also considering regear to 4.88 and wondering what the "regear tune" does for that sizing and the newest tune version. Would likely go with base level setting for acceleration. Any info. on how that would work together...OTT?

    Thanks for any info.

Would you clarify if you were using radar cruise or "traditional" cruise mode when the above occurred? And I also assume this was with the OE calibration?

Our gear set specific files have a revised shift schedule matched to the specific differential ratio selected (be that 4.88 or 5.29).

A regear along with the tune really does help the double overdrive 3G Auto behavior in the hills. The increased mechanical advantage afforded by the gear change helps put more torque into the rear wheel for a given vehicle speed. The tune file optimizes the shift schedule for the change, and enhances it further with a modest increase in torque at just about all RPM/Loads while giving you various options to address the pedal/throttle ratio. Together they work as a package, though individually, they are both worlds of improvement over 'stock.'

Radar/adaptive cruise control essentially functions as stock for all 3rd Gen Tacoma tunes available. If you’re expecting cruise control to behave wildly different with the tune vs stock, that is not the case.

I updated my tune last year May. How do I know when there's an updated version released?

Send us an email to info@overlandtailor.com or reach out to the tune who applied your flash and we'll confirm for you.

Otherwise, feel free to post the date you were tuned and what vehicle you have and I can let you know!

Waiting on our flashing cable. We'll be hitting it hard here shortly. We'll be collecting lots of data and making a post regarding 4G development. It should be pretty tech-heavy with lots of pressure and temperature differential data to help the community and allow us to assess better where the truck is in terms of OE state of tune versus how much headroom is left on the table while still retaining margins of safety for using the truck as a "truck." But were as excited as any and really interested in the potential of the new Toyota platforms..

Super excited to see if the detuned SR can be "unlocked" for the power it was designed to have.

King 2.5’s with adjusters from accutune front and rear, 88 rotors rear add a leaf, Camburg X-joint UCA’s, Factory style trd pro 16” wheels with 0 offset, 285/75/16 KO2’s, pro grille, Front bumper viper cut, trd front skid plate, full RCI under skid plates, Cali raised trail sliders, exhaust cut dump, KDMax 10.0 tune
So I’ve waited a while to do a review of this tune but I can honestly say, by far this is the best thing I’ve ever done to my truck. I had the latest KD Max tune and this tune completely BLOWS it out of the water. Sooooo much smoother on the freeway and shifts like a normal vehicle would while still maintaining speed up inclines. I have the mild-medium setting and it is perfect. For reference, I have a 3 inch lift, 33” KO2’s, steel skid plates and rock sliders. No change in mpg’s over the KD Max though which isn’t a big deal.

That's all that's needed. We do have the SEMA-CE (CARB-EO Pending) calibration that is available.

From a driveability/performance standpoint it's a very mild update. However, with you being in CA, the eventual CARB-EO will be worth it for you to update for legality/SMOG compliance. Send your tuner a message and he'll get back with you otherwise send me a PM and I'll have him reach out to you.

You can be assured we'll evaluate that and likely offer that as a "low cost" option for folks.

Does yours ever shift into 6th gear on the freeway? I haven't gotten a tune on mine yet but it almost never goes into 6th unless I'm going 80+ or something insane like that. Currently on 255/85r16s but even with stock tire size, it was always cruising in 5th on the freeway anywhere from 2100 to 2500 rpm between 65-75 mph on flat ground.

This is awesome! I see a lack of 05/06 Tundras, and don't know other models well enough to speak to those... But is this because of VVTI? Is there a possibility for 05/06 Tundra tunes in the future?

We have files available for the 2005/2006 CAN based Tundra's right now. Full engine/transmission calibration. Have a 2006 going on the dyno next week. :)

We've also got full engine/transmission calibrations available for 2007-2009 4.7L Tundras, available soon from our retailers.
