Sound Deadening Install. Looking for ANY advice

Just requires a tiny bit of sheet metal trimming.

Best decision I ever made. I have zero deficiency in the bass department.

 

I think that is bad ass. Let’s you keep your full seats too. Can only imagine how loud those JL’s are in there!

 

The seats are able to stay up like if there was nothing behind them. If I don’t pull the seat forward to show you what’s hiding behind, you would never know



And yes, the bass reproduction in my Taco right now, is fantastic! Clean and with authority. Best bass reproduction I ever had in any system I owned in any of my prior vehicles.

I have Focal Utopia 8WM on each front door. Audiomobile EVO2408 in sealed box in the front passenger foot well, and (2)12W7s in a built to spec braced sealed 13 ply Baltic Birch box.

I’m not a bass head, my build is not for SPL or SQL, it’s really meant for SQ. But if you want to have fun with the system, it gets low with authority.

And for some of the replies on this thread, that argue, that after a certain point of CLD, MLV, etc, you get a diminished return on your investment, all I can say is the cab on the Taco with Goodyear Dura Tracs is as quiet as a high end luxury vehicle and have zero resonance or rattling issues with the system at full tilt.

 

Unreal! I’m sure the quality is fantastic. For not being a bass head you definitely have the power to be.

 

I just like the bass to play clean and with authority even at high volume.

I’m not having my wife inside the truck pulling SPL “hair tricks” or anything like that, that is not my objective . I just like the bass to be reproduced properly and naturally regardless of the genre of music I’m playing.

 

I have the stock JBL with sub in my truck. Sounds okay. But the biggest annoyance of that system is you have absolutely zero control over the sub bass. Idk who would design a system where you turn down the "bass" on the HU and you lose all low end, even out of the door speakers. So many times where you'll play a song and the sub bass is too hot compared to everything else, so i turn down the bass and end up listening mostly to the mids and highs. Great design....

I feel you. Believe it or not it was really hard for me to take the plunge. I’m the original owner, purchased my Taco October 25th, 2005.

But it’s the BEST decision I made, the sound that I experience inside my truck is the best I ever had. It’s a big step to take, but if you do it correctly, there are no regrets.

Funny thing is, when people get in the truck the first time, they look at the HU, and the A-pillar pods, and they think, ok, guy has a system. They really don’t know what to make of the front sub box…

They look a little curious, but then when they hear the bass, they immediately turn around to look at the back seat, like, what the heck is going on back there. I like that reaction.

 

I am curious how one can do PDR once sound dampening material is added to the interior door space. I have purchased enough to cover all four door interiors but recently got a ding and concerned that installing would make future dent repairs prohibitive.

 

You will have to find that spot and clear it for the tech to get his tools to reach it.

But then again, my truck is in perfect condition after 19 years of ownership. I have never had a dent/ding that required PDR ever.

I just park way out there in “no man’s land”, when at the store etc.

IMHO, I don’t think it’s even an issue

I’m in the process, finally, of adding Second Skin MLV & foam to the back wall and floor. Back wall done and there’s a noticeable difference to me. Seems like I’ll have to remove the factory insulation under the carpet or things won’t fit properly.
Is that why you went the route you did? Not sure if anyone else can chime in about this.

 

Are you referring to the soft foam-like material, or the hardened stuff that looks like it was "painted" on there? I removed the former and kept the latter in place. I had replaced the entire carpet with a custom MLV-backed one from stockinteriors.com so I can't comment on how the original carpet will fit after adding sound deadening. I will say that my new new MLV carpet + butyl + foam is so thick that I couldn't get the seat bolt covers reinstalled. Other than that, I had no issues.

I can not wait to get mine done just for one reason or another I have not yet been able to complete it but it will be coming up soon !!

 

The only areas to worry about on the floor are the door sill clips, otherwise I managed to get killmat, a 1/8 closed cell foam as well as 1/8 MLV over the entire floor. You can even go 50% up the interior firewall. If you try to cover the floor under the plastic door sill cover, you'll be hard-pressed to get those covers to hold in position.
