I remember those days too. Gone drive inns, cheap gas, and cheap fast food. When I worked at a Phillips 66 back in
76 I remember the owner saying, make my word so day you will pay a dallor a gallon for gas. I thought he was nuts, he had 2 branded and 6 unbranded gas stations. Now not so much. Fast food is almost as expensive as a sit down and they expect a tip also. I might give the change if I get all the correct food. But going to to any fast food place around here is an adventure in it's self. Not sure if anyone else notices the entertainment value in giving cash to most of the workers.

Have a great day every one.

My wife and I are going to her unofficial class of 71 reunion Saturday. Most are turning 71 this year.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! A quiet uneventful day (excluding another bad day in the stock market!)
Oh how we love to remember the past! Yep when I first got my driver’s license at 16 (1963) and got a 1955 Chevy 2 door Belair, gas wars were going on in North Texas. $.169/gallon and Griff’s hamburgers were $.15 each although pretty little.

Onward to another cup of black coffee and watch the sun come up, the wildlife wake, and mosquitoes fly around the screened porch…UGH! Have a marvelous day everybody!

I graduated high school in '63, I recall the prices. I went to work in a structural steel plant in the yard as a slag knocker and then painter. Times were good, twelve hour days with five on Saturday. The owners were two brothers and when they closed on Saturday, they brought beer and burgers. I thought I was rich with a '60 Corvair, the cutest girl I ever saw; life was good.

    PS Ralph Nader was wrong.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/reminiscers. Not to burst bubbles, but $1 in 1965 is the same as $10 today. So that 1965 gallon of gas was effectively $2.50!

Back then I 'inherited' a 1960 Falcon Ranchero from my sister when she went off to college. Straight six, 2-speed(!!) slushbox. I would give people rides home from school and they would give me a dime, and that was a fair deal for everyone. It sure does feel like forever ago.

    • Good morning 60+ people. Gas prices? When I was a kid I worked for my Dad at the airport. Every morning we'd take gas samples from the tanks and the fuel truck looking for water or contaminants. I usually wound up with five gallons of gas and I ran that in my Jeep flat fender all week . After a year of av-gas it didn't want to run on anything else. Once in awhile I'd add a little Marvel Mystery Oil...nothing scientific, just a couple of glugs, and it always seemed to run better.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Super-exciting no fasting lab work, haircut, come home and mow!! Life is wild!

Waited a couple hours to get going because apparently the storm Tuesday night knocked out one of the three phase legs. Naturally, the one with the AC's on it! Bunch of old men sitting on the benches "waiting for a bus". I did wrangle a total of SEVEN shields off the motor yesterday, even though my bit was not as planned. Look at all those cylinder heads!!

Geez I love looking at the A and B series cooling fins of the R-2800; yeah the C series fins were more efficient, but not the work of art the earlier fins were.

    Afternoon all:

:yay: Now I know how Kurt feels when the gets the motor to give up a part!
Went up to my buddies house to drill out the seized secondary adjustment screw in a Holley baseplate. SLOWLY, and with a slightly undersized drill bit in a drill press, we finally got the sucker drilled out without damaging anything, then ran the correct #21 drill through the hole and retaped it to 10-32 thread. Can't believe how needing to replace a small screw can turn into a time consuming PITA project!

Doesn't matter here. They kill our power by pulling the primary fuse cutout at the transformer. They may be slow reconnecting you, if they have other issues that take precedence at the time. It took them 4hrs. to reconnect us, after a generator install. Good test, though. Always settling to hear the genny spool up.

The fish finally started biting. I was fishing the pond for the 5th time yesterday.
    3 bluegill, 2 perch and 2 bass.
