I'd absolutely take one if it helps fund further moral corruption aka buying Tacoma parts.

Hey @CygnusX191 … very noisy up front on my 4.0. Clearly a bearing is dry. Tensioner? Big job? What says our local tech?

Congrats on another successful school year. That's one year closer to retirement.
Thank you for teaching our youth.

    I haven't heard that noise.

I've had an intermittent squeak ever since I had the alternator replaced. My mechanic said it was the tensioner, so I had that replaced when the A/C compressor died.

The squeak went away for a week or so but then came back.

As it got colder, it was mostly gone, but came back in spring.

I went to a different shop since I moved my business. I asked them to replace the idler pulleys because that was about all that was lft that could cause that noise. He called me and told me it was the tensioner.

I went back to the first shop to have that replaced again since it was still under warranty, he agreed to do that.

I took the truck in and it wasn't making noise, so he didn't replace it. He did however replace the idlers since I also wanted that done anyways.

2 days later, the squeak is back.

    That's unfortunate.
I was hoping to get a chance to meet even you in person, too. Then maybe you'll put your internet judgment aside and stop being a sour puss toward me.

Last weekend I was supposed to visit my Mom, but I was dealing with a cold or something. So, I decided to self quarantine in the woods. I haven't done enough solo trips for the last couple of years, so it was really nice to just wing it and relax.

Saturday I wound up at Bearpaw. The only site left was one right on the road, but it was plenty roomy for one vehicle. I just hung out and relaxed and had a few drinks.

    20240525_201638.jpg

Sunday morning, I hit some of the usual spots. I'm not sure if there was a fire, or if they intentionally burned some of the brush, but it certainly looks different by Instagram hill.

    20240526_075455.jpg

Of course, I had to stop at TK's for a 6 pack of Keweenaw.

    20240526_083207.jpg

I decided to stop at the Pipeline trail head on Buck's Ranch just to look at it. Not surprisingly, there were numerous tire tracks going in and out. Mostly ATV or UTV, but a few from full size vehicles as well. Nothing like completely disregarding the signs. Although, I think the forest service could do a much better job marking things. The signs aren't very big, and they're way off to the side.

Then, I headed north, and stopped at Chipmunk Rapids for some spring water. It's really just trickling out compared to normal. Not sure what's up with that.

    20240526_122354.jpg

I ended up near Three Lakes, looking at primitive campsites. My first choice was occupied, but I found a spot on Wolf Lake. It's kind of weird being right on the road, but there wasn't much traffic.

    20240526_152119.jpg

Monday morning, I got going right away. I stopped at "Sunset Grill" for breakfast. I would definitely go back. I had a nice meal with a good view, and washed it down with a Tequila Sunrise.

    20240527_082008.jpg

From there, I took a roundabout way home. I stopped at a favorite shore fishing spot, but it was occupied, so I just kept going.

I saw this little guy crossing the road, and stopped to see if it was OK. Apparently, the moms leave them unattended all day, so I snapped a picture and left it alone. Hopefully its mom found it.

    20240527_121111.jpg

All in all, a very good weekend! I forgot how therapeutic solo camping is. I really need to set aside some weekends for myself every summer.

So anyways, if it is the tensioner, the book calls for removing the A/C compressor to be able to do the R&R at a total cost of about $800.
Quite a few people (including my mechanic) say that there is enough flex in the fittings that if you are careful, you can do the job without going to all that trouble. Some people on TW have done it themselves in an hour or so, for under $200. With your rig, you probably can just stand under it and do it without a hoist. :boink:

I waited 18 weeks for my rear bumper to show up. Then another 8 weeks to paint and do the install. The wait was worth it.

F' that. I just buffed and polished ALF 3 weeks ago. Gonna stay that way 'til KenTWuky.

    Doobies.

Couldn't give you a like for that one, Adam.

Tensioners aren't complicated. Plenty of room to get them and any pulleys out, esp on the 1gr. Throw a new belt on while you're in there. $17 from O'Reilly's

Can confirm. Unbolt any fittings that are "holding" ac lines down and you can move the compressor without having to disconnect the lines

I've only had my 1st gen apart, so probably not much help with the tensioner topic. 20160423_060945 (1).jpg
    Did someone say Doobies, though?
    I can help with that.
