I appreciate your and everyone else’s input. I just ordered new springs for the rear coilovers. Played around with calculator so hopefully it works out.

Going to try out what you suggested, try and droop out the truck and swap coils.

I think many will be very surprised to find it’s not going to pull 16”…

Everyone is has this belief that 2:1 motion ratio means 2:1 through the entire range of travel. And it couldn’t be further from the truth. Can you maintain close to 2:1? Yes. Good luck maintaining exactly 2:1 though. It would absolutely blow my mind if it could even pull 16” metal to metal on the shock.

Then, I ask. What is “minimal bump steer”? And why didn’t it just get eliminated entirely when the spindle was built? Or was bump steer intentionally introduced to prevent binding at the tie rod heim?

Many claim you don’t feel bump steer. But after experiencing truly zero, I couldn’t disagree more. It’s quite literally the difference of being able to let go of the wheel entirely through whoops and still track straight, and actually having to drive it.

I would much rather say “the geometry is perfect” than to say “I have 16” of travel”

Will any change to the alignment through pivot locations at the lower or heimed uppers not change bump steer from zero?

I would hope minimal would mean zero at a specific alignment and minimal outside of that, but that may be unlikely

He did specify "crawler j-arm kit" so it would make sense prioritizing travel numbers in that case. But i agree no way he's gonna get travel like that with the stock tower unless it's setup real weird to get tons of down travel and not much else. Also no idea what the benefit of a j-arm would be for crawling

Even so, it still takes a CV like a 930/934 to achieve solid down travel. Bump steer won’t be such an upset in the rocks for sure. And absolutely zero benefit to J-arm for rocks. The only real and true benefit to a J arm is fitting some big ass secondaries. Everything else can be achieved via A-arm.

1,000% alignment can impact bump steer. However bump steer is mostly impacted via tie rod length. Inner/outer pivot height also plays a role. But tie rod length made the biggest impact when I was designing the swingset. Change it even 1/2” and it translates to possible inches of bump steer.

Yea I found that out the hard way the first time I drove mine with a camburg rack clevis that shortened my tie rods 3/4" or so. With all the body sway + bump steer it was pretty scary

But pushing LCA pivots outward with alignment tabs and lengthening the tie rod again for toe I was able to get rid of a lot of it.

I was surprised when I set up my camburg kit, with stock towers and their bypass hoop & oem bumps tops cut off, it actually cycled 16” metal to metal with shocks in. I have it set up at 15” strapped and bumped to be in the safer zone and account for some hydro bump pad wear.
Pretty much spot on for 50/50 up and down travel too

& before you ask, no I don’t have pictures
