What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Thanks, I've seen the other options and knew about the chem sprayer option. I have access to the base hobby shop with all the commercial level equip for doing stuff like this, in hindsight I should have used it, anything would have been better the pumping it from individual bottles. Despite my griping it's was still a pretty easy job. The biggest issue was my driveway slopes down so I had to lift the rear of the truck 8 inches to get it level for the fluid checks and that slope made all the bottles of ATF easier to tip over, live and learn.

Next time I'll be using the lift and the correct transfer system at the base, it's a great resource.

 

Steering wheel covers, and rug mat I had laying around not sure if this stuff will stay in the truck

Out with the old in with the new best $$36.00 I ever spent on this Tacoma.

 

1st wash today in 13 months and 19 days (under 2k miles since last wash) on the old 2008. I love the Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic car wash. I am never disappointed with that stuff. Had this truck 3 years. Never waxed it. The ceramic wash lasts forever.

 

Ripped this stupid O ring putting my timing cover on after head gasket job, gotta wait for a replacement. Big sad when I saw it dangling there in pieces haha.

 

The tow hitch on my 2014 was looking pretty rough when I was under it the other day. Big pieces of paint and rust flaking off. I took the manual and drill powered wire brush to it, pressure washed it, waited for it to dry, then primed and painted. I ran out of the rust colored primer and had to switch to the gray, hence all the colors. I didn't try too hard to make it pretty, just want to prevent any more damage.

Change me out the discharge hose for the ac at 151,140 ..One day without ac in Alabama sucked lol

 

Went wheeling and slashed a tire on the obstacle which made for an interesting descent and sketchiest tire change of my life. Also backed into a tree and tweaked the coastal bumper pretty good, luckily I have floor anchors at work so should straighten up nicely.

Had this heavy clevis laying around so made a big recovery hitch out of some 1/4" wall tubing. Is this the new truck nuts? I'm not entirely sold on it but it should work well.

 

Tree mod. Storm leaned over tree so used some light duty winching to correct it.

148k, I know, I should have done it sooner.

Today's project was a set of new rear springs, the truck is a TRD 4x4 with 4YO recall springs toyota installed. Back then I added sumos which handled any extra weight pretty well but the sumos mostly sat against the frame's bump stop which transmitting most the little imperfections in the driving surface right through into the chassis. I added a topper and some items inside recently and the existing setup wasn't cutting it. Lots of spring options out there, I chose some General Spring heavy duty springs.



Install was straight forward and other then this old guy having to heft around the springs weight it went smoothly.


The new springs lifted the rear about 2.5 inches and I figure that will settle down a little. The front's are stock at the moment w/ 5100s set at .8" but they're originals and sagging some. Next up I've got a set of OME 884s I'll be installing and moving the 5100s back to zero notch and doing an ecgs bushing. I'm hoping that should level the truck out with about 1.5~2" of lift with the topper and some gear in the back.


I'm surprised how much just changing out the rear springs improved the ride.

Yesssss. This is on my to do list this summer too!

 

Painted and installed rock sliders.

Had a nervous time bending the hard break line to get the bolts installed.

Omitted for now the 6 bolts that needed to be drilled into the bottom part of the C channel.

 

Reinstalled the skid plate to see how it looks after installing the hiline bumper. I like it and will sport the look for awhile.

 

Troubleshot a P0451 and P0455 codes today and found the issue. I’m looking far and wide for some help with the part number. The hose was damaged by a squirrel.

@caribe makaira was able to find me a drawing of it but wasn’t able to find the part number.

It’s the hose that has that square retainer clip. It goes here, just right next to the filler neck.

This is what the end close to the filler neck looks like.



The other end goes into the back top end of the tank. I took pictures with my borescope camera.





Any help finding the part number would be greatly appreciated.

 

Cleaned the MAF sensor and the throttle body and also shined up the engine bay. put everything back together, started the truck and got a high idle around 2000 rpm that wouldn't go down. Called my son that used to work at Toyota and happened to be there at the time for some recall on his Tacoma and he spoke to one of the master techs to just unplug the battery for about 30 minutes. It worked and idling smooth.
