    From FaceBook regarding the 3.4TT:

“The hybrid is most definitely affected, is the same engine. Not to be a whistle blower, but they figured out that the lower duty cycle of the hybrid application is less likely to result in the bearings getting hot enough lose tolerance and spin. Once those are out of warranty Toyota plans on issuing a “customer satisfaction program” that will offer pro-rated extended coverage and save them from paying for repairs on any truck with 90k or higher miles.”

    and

“The root cause of the issue applies to both the hybrid and non-hybrid, it’s a base engine design failure. They couldn’t get the V35 rotating assembly to hold up under high torque conditions, so they used a cast iron lower main cap on an aluminum block. The metals are dissimilar and expand/contract at different rates, causing out of round journals with incorrect clearances. They’re now trying to blame it on “contamination” so they can get these out of warranty and into the much less costly CSP bracket.”

I rented this OR in Denver from Avis, first person to rent it. Wow, the turbo was fun, sporty in traffic and on dirt, and plenty of power.
The powertrain is great... Toyota nailed it.

This is the condition I was referring to. Fucking design flaw, big time. The new GX 550 is going to grenade. I am not sure this flaw migrates to the Tacoma since it’s the twin turbo V6 with the flaw.

    It's not a Tacoma issue.

The V35A issues appears, to me, to be a problem originating in Japan, not Alabama. My assumption is that the components affected are/were being dual sourced during the ramp-up period at the start of Tundra production, and so while some may have been coming from Alabama, some were also coming from Japan.

The issue affects 3,500 LX600 vehicles produced from late July 2021 to late November 2022
The issue affects 98,600 Tundra vehicles produced from early November 2021 to mid-February 2023

So the issue was seen in Japan first, and those parts were still in transit to North America and consumed at a later date in the Tundra.

At least, that's my theory. It's also possible the reverse is true, but I doubt Japan was sourcing from North America for LX production in Japan.

It's starting to sound like a design flaw, not a production or quality control issue.

They completely changed the design and materials. It didn’t work.

I test drove a manual sport today. All they had available as the sales mangers off road was getting a wrap so I will try that next weekend. I must after getting back into my 3rd Gen I felt like a peasant due to how comfortable the 4th gen is compared to my premium off road .

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, SOS rear bumper, SOS skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
That's right, the LX is made in Japan. The Tundra is made in Texas.

Only NX engine problems I am aware of are from the first gen 200/300h. Those didn't have the T24A or the A25A that the T24 was based on. Do you have different information?

Lexus sold 49,000 NX in 2022 and 75,000 in 2023. They are not having engine problems.

I don't buy this. It's common to run a cast main cap on an aluminum block. I know Ford 4.6s do and they're not changed in motors making a 1000+ hp. Pretty sure the 3.5 uses cast caps without issue too...

One of the videos I watched had a cast cap. The bearing and seal were toast.

Agree. Aluminum caps on iron blocks and steel caps on aluminum blocks is very common. Toyota wasn't using a novel concept here.

I saw a comment somewhere that was blaming "ladder" caps for the problem.
