I'll never know why the Navy tried blue 20 years later.
I was on Sheppard when the AF blue was out, saw a couple guys wearing them, and at the uniform store on a mannequin.
I knew some airmen who were glad they didt get approved.

I never understood why the Navy went away from the forever used dungaree/blue shirt and went to the stupid Blueberry BDU's.

    Admiral, but yep.
Blueberries were bad in every way. The current type 2 and 3 are super comfy. Now the new Navy working uniform is the same pattern, just plain blue

    I'm this old

Not just BDUs, but the "new" kevlar helmets were just being issued. Wish they had better lighting, this was my official Basic Training Army picture.

I'm this old, too. Nothing but steel pots for me thru ROTC and EOBC. Didn't get my first Kevlar until I got to West Germany ('87). Kevlar was more comfortable, but that steel pot minus the liner sure came in handy sometimes in the field.

Airforce uniforms - if they wanna be camo - should have clouds and birds and shit, right?

Dude - your bct pic was in COLOR - you can't be that old :D But mad-respect at the old mis-matched name tapes.

When did you go in? By my enlistment, 1992, we had kevlars in bct.

That’s what everyone looked like when I enlisted in ‘88, steel pots and no summer weight BDUs.

They were heavily influenced by Congress and the immensely favorable response to Army's PEO Soldier program. And just like that, every senator and house member in every related committee had a massive erection for digital-looking camouflage patterns.
Because the Colonel for PEO had a massive erection for digital pattern camo.

Look, I tested at least seven or twenty different camo patterns on similarly cut uniforms, and never once did I see anything in the test that resembled the abomination we were handed at the end.

Pic was taken in either August or September 1985, Ft. McClellan, AL (closed by Congress in the 90's).

"summer weight" BDUs.... never heard of those. Would have been nice in central Alabama in August/September during Basic o_O:rofl:We had one day, in September I think, it was sot hot+humid, they allowed us to unblouse our pants from our boots, take of the BDU shirt to keep cool (on several occasions), DIs constantly walking around us at the training facility that day to make sure we were all staying properly hydrated. We heard a "THUMP!", turned around, and one of the DI's had passed out and hit the floor. They didn't unblouse or remove BDU shirts.

The summer weights were thinner and had a grid lines in the material. Kinda looks like it in your pic but cant really tell

Yeah, new ripstop cammies don't show the lines until after they've been in the weeds or the cleaner's around a dozen times.
