Upstate NY is awfully pretty, at least this time of year. I'm told it's somewhat miserable come winter. We're staying in Aurora right on lake Cayuga.

New S/T Maxx came in. Was given the old tire by Discount which was interesting. I can dispose of it at a local disposal event this summer. I know people have patched stuff like this successfully before (it would only be used as a spare) but I don't think it's it's worth my time. The BFG KM2 wasn't ideal being so much taller than the Cooper. I carry the stock bottle jack and an aluminum floor jack so a double tire change for rear punctures wouldn't be terrible. @Wulf

I would patch that and run it :notsure:

I assume the tire tech agrees or they would have slashed the sidewall to prevent use like they do for dangerous tires

That's a basic $15 patch job that any shop would take care of, and would run you for a long time

Threads look plentiful and if that tire isn't all dry rotted (doesn't look like it) definitely worth keeping

    That's just me though

Yeah when he rolled it out to me I was confused. Walmart slashed a tire with a sidewall puncture I had in 2018.

Yeah it's a great set of tires still, a bit under 2 years old. I was annoyed when they said it had a puncture because I assumed it was in the sidewall. I'll have to try and find a shop that will touch it, or try patching it myself and taking it in for mounting.

Gettin close on the bumper. Probably be finished in a couple days if I didn’t have a work trip most the next week..

Just needs the latch figured out and some tube caps cut

    IMG_5414.jpg

I was originally going to do big gussets on the on the vertical tubes, y’all think that’s really necessary? Thing is a tank already it’s all 3/16” 2” tube don’t really want to add even more weight unnecessarily

There's always good stuff to entertain me when I've been off here a few days.

This is from my "run" -- more hike on Wednesday. Doing hill intervals at the ski hill; trying out poles for the first time. This is the less steep side of the mtn.

SWEEEEEET. I'm looking at replacing my tailgate with something to hold the tire and open like that. I wanna add a fold down table for the campings and stuffs. I already have a tube bumper I like and too many other projects...sigh.

It’s been a fun project. Definitely going to get a fold down table on it as well at some point too

You thinking like one of the Wilco Tailgate ones?

I vote either gusset up top or below as shown, with a bottle opener in the center

    IMG_5414.jpg

Obviously said gusset would be smaller, and would only be used when camping (assuming you're adding a fold-down table)

Liking the feedback - added bottle opener is genius!

Also, UHMW is great as a "stop" or "rest" to prevent metal-on-metal and used often in DIY swingouts

I'd love to get the one on my bench done but again, no physical truck with me to model off of as I can make some more parts now but prefer a "close to body, but no contact" type fitment

I was using UHMW as a rest on the other bumper since it's hard AF but cuts and drills/machines nicely

Even countersunk the holes on top to mount it to the bumper so the bolts didn't protrude
